Ice conditions are poor. The slush has not froze completely and there was a lot of it. There is a long warm spell coming that will cause a lot of ice to become unsafe. Right now you can be on 10 inches of ice and and take one step and be on 1 inch of ice. Water is still very warm which opened up holes and creates the thin spots. As of last week people were still dropping sleds through the ice and a small tractor at the landing went through even though it has been frozen for 4 week. I came out from the south arm on back trails on Wednesday and there was 10 or more inches of slush for 11.5 km out of 12. Blew up two machines but made it in. Heard today some of the hub operators cannot get there huts to there spots because too much slush. I am heading back in tomorrow so will have more info on Conditions. If you plan to travel on lake Temagami in the next 7 days be very careful and wear a float suit. Already fell through the ice a couple times this year. A float suit can be the difference between living and dying.
Jeff...any idea how the back lakes are? Diamond, Red Squirrel, etc... Hoping to head out for specks in 2 weeks but looks like crossing Temagami might not be an option.

I have been fishing some back lakes. They have 6 to 12 inches of ice but have a good amount of slush on them. Hopefully the warm spell will melt the slush down a bit. The ice in the back lakes is thick enough to withstand this warm spell. Two week should not be a problem. If the ice on the big lake is not safe enough to get to the back lakes you mentioned you can trailer your sleds to red squirrel lake road and make access from there as you probably already know. Good luck p.s. I have heard the spec fishing has been very good from some friends.
Thanks Jeff...appreciate the info as always!

Thanks Jeff. Please keep us posted.
Heading back in to the south arm today. Will have updated ice conditions tonight. If you want Temagami ice conditions just Pm me and I will send them to you
Thanks Jeff. Love your updates! Heading up there on the 26th, thanks to your info I won't be heading up there "blind". Hope the slush disappears...got stuck enough last year to last me for a while.
Cheers,

Can you keep everyone updated on Temagami lake/ice conditions. Heading to Tamar Feb.3 -some in my group worried ice won't be safe. Sooooo looking forward to our trip

Thanks winter9. Pm me if you ever want more detailed info. Hey Macky do not worry. There are spots on the main lake and a few other areas that are not great but we have had ice for 5 to 6 weeks on our end of the lake so we have 7 to 12inches of good safe ice and some slush that is draining now. .( we have large ice road pumps so we also flood our hut spots to thicken the ice to keep the slush away) We have put our trail mainly tight to shore but our trail has the same 7 to 12 inches. Yesterday our trail was in the best shape of the season. With the cooler weather beginning in a few days and some cold weather by this weekend ice conditions should be very good when you come. Pm me if you have any questions or need a update. It will be colder when you are here. Should be good for fishing.
The lake has tightened up really good and conditions are finally starting to improve. Top of the slush has froze up and we can now travel on top of the slush. Have put our trail in down the centre of the lake from the hub finally. Still a few bad spots on the lake so be careful but improving every day as the water in the lake has finally cooled under the ice. Should get better each day now with the colder weather we finally have coming
Hey Jeff,
How my buddies doing up at Tamar...Steve and Sonny??

they paid off but havent heard from them yet.

Hi to Bruce
They had a good trip. Lots of lakers. Caught some good size ling and many. Wolves stole a couple of there ling at night from under there feet. They said the Ciscos were on fire. They did well on our one of our back lakes and caught some big walleye ( for a small lake) and got some meals. They finally got into the whitefish on there third day here and did ok. They also caught some walleye in front of the resort. They did most of there fishing at two of our hut and outside them as the fish were on. They worked hard for the 4 days they were here. They deserved everything they caught. More groups in this weekend. Our weather is finally stable so the good fishing should continue.
Forgot to mention they also got some pike in one of our back lake and they got spooled in one of the deep hut. Think they may have lost a big one in the back lake too but not sure. Just got there final report now before they left.
The lake has improved drastically. The worst spot we found had 6 inches of ice. We are hauling 2000 pounds of materials each trip down 12 km on our ice road with no issues or break throughs by trailer and sled. We will start flooding the 6 inch spot on our road and should be driving on our road in a week. There is a few inches of snow on the ice with a few drifts. Lots of colder weather here for a while. Good travelling conditions now.
Thanks for the updates Jeff...pass on a cheer to Bruce/Anne from the gang in Cabin 5...Feb 15. Keep the updates coming, thanks
Can you drive to Tamar ?
No not yet. We have a few hundred feet of ice that froze last. There is only 6 inches there. We will be flooding it in the next few days so hopefully the road will be ready soon. They are driving on the road to bear island.
Heading up to temagani next week just seeing what ice conditions are like, how much snow on ice and most importantly how's the fishing
thanks paul
pfow14,
going up in the morning for 5 days will report back on conditions, lures that worked, ........and everything else.
Up here now, fishing is slow, lots of ice tho almost 2', a bit of slush in some spots.
Hi Everyone,
Hoping to get some help .. I'm planning on coming up this weekend. Anyone recommend a place to stay for the night (motel/lodge type) and general locations to go out from? I'm planning on bringing my sled for transportation so am hoping I can access the lake from an easily accessible launch location and close to good waters for whitefish and lake trout.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Stay safe and tight lines!
Chris
Hey Chris,
In town you can stay at either Temagami Shores or at Northland Paradise Lodge. You can access Lake Temagami right from town or drive down the access road and access the main lake from there. Really there are hundreds of spots to fish on Temagami. I'd go run and gun style. On the east side of Hwy 11 there is Cassel's and Rabbit lake, fishing is good there to. Good luck!
Hay Jeff
We are up next week and staying in the bungalow
How has the fishing at the bungalow? As we don't have sleds to move around.
Our last time up with Bruce was very slow as the weather changed drastically
Bruce had to drop down the tail gate on the truck at the bungalow door as we tossed our stuff in on our last day.
There must have been 3 to 6 inches of water all over ice and around the bungalow.
Hey Mack
Right now the lake is slushy and melting down with this warm weather. Should tighten up tonight with the bit of cold we have coming. The fishing here has been good to very good when the weather has been cold but when it is warm and wet the fishing has been poor. Unfortunately our fishing is controlled by the weather. There have been the odd warm day where the fishing has been ok but few. We have seen more people spooled by big fish this year then the last few years all together. The walleye and whitefish fishing has been better this year then the last few and our open water season was the best in over 12 years. Also seeing more ling caught and bigger ones so far this year. Average lake trout season so far with a few more caught but not as many large fish. Good luck
Just got back from the South Arm . Tamar Island....A big thanks to Bruce, Jeff and Anne.....they have a great setup...a must to experience. Great place and great fishing for us. (group of 4) Sleds will help you catch more fish as you have access to the back lakes and main lake which we did. But we did well in their huts too. Pickerel were caught in 22F0W and 47FOW. The morning bite was better, we kept 10 pickerel the largest being 26 inches. A 36 inch pike was caught and released. Throw in a few Lakers and all is good. Chubs worked better than pinheads. Cheers. NOTL group.
Hay thanks for getting back
looking forward to be up there again
weather is always an issue hopefully with it being warmer for awhile the weather hasn't changed for the the catching
nice to know walleye have been caught and some lakes and knowing some good size ling great for the night fishing
thanks again for gettting back
will fill in everyone else in when we get back as if Bruce put us on a great place as in the the past
Hey guys I'm heading up there tomorrow just seeing how much snow is on the ice and slush. Would a snowmobile or 4 wheeler be better now as it suppose to rain and be warm for the next few days?
thabks paul
Thanks Moosehead for the good review. We always enjoy having your group up and you guys always seem to do pretty good on the walleye regardless of the weather. Look forward to seeing you again and Anne and Bruce says Thanks for cleaning the cottage well and they look forward to seeing you next year too.
Hey pfowl4 I think with our current conditions and future forecast you will probably be able to use your atv. 3 days ago I would of said no way but things have changed drastically with the warm.
Sorry should of mentioned a ski doo would better all around as things are good now but if we get a heavy snow fall it may be hard to get around on a Atv.
How's the ice holding up ?
There is 16 to 20 inches of ice with no snow on top. Driving our 4000 pound tractor on the lake moving super bungalows today easily. Have a snow storm coming tomorrow which will change travel condition but cold air is moving in tonight and we will start making ice again
Nice I'm coming up to my place for 9 days . I hope the fish cooperate .
Hey fishing 123
We have been getting trout from 2 to 8 pounds in our 80 to 90 foot huts in good numbers. In 100 to 120 feet some friends and a few guests have been getting larger fish but not as many. Most of our spoolings and broken lines have been in the 90 foot range from large trout. Over the last few years we have seem lots of 1 pounders caught. This season that average for small fish has been 2 pounds so lots of eating size fish. Our huts in 55 to 65 feet have seen a few trout but not many. I like 90 feet right now but you never know. Good luck
Our lake in Haliburton has similar depth and structure as Temagami. We catch all our winter lakers at 30-40 feet of water. We've tried 60+ with no luck and have never considered fishing at 90+ feet. We're putting our spots together for our trip to Tamar this Thursday. Should we even consider looking in areas with 30 feet of water or are we wasting time doing so.
Just getting back from a weekend on temagami. As Jeff recommended we fished around 90 feet of water. Got a few. I tried fishing in 40 to 60 feet for one day but ddnt get anything. Overall fishing was slow. Thanks for the advice as always Jeff.

Thinking of going up with the kids. Any whitefish luck lately?
Should I take a sled or four wheeler or just drive the truck?
Or is there too much snow and slush for truck driving or not enough ice this year
Jeff did Lake Trout close on the 15th on Temagami?
Thanks
