Yummm!! Invite me over if you find some!!
Saw one yesterday, only about 4 - 5 " in diameter... But that's the only one I've seen so far...I'll be back to check it out in another day or two...
Around here it's usually in Sept after a cool wet period.
Cheers
Big walk today didn't see any. Might be a little early and who knows this year.
Saw a 1" diameter one on my lawn yesterday, seems a bit early but being cool and wet maybe helps.
Checked a picture from a few years back I took it August 18 th. so might be a little early yet
Should be lots around here late August with the wet weather we've had this summer.
Hope so here, I didn't find any last year until they were too old
I know of a great stand of puffballs. They are right on the top of a shady, wet hill; 20 feet below them is a coyote den. Haven't worked up the courage yet to go for it. :)
Could come and stand by with some fire power if needed! Ha ha. Hope you can end up getting a few
Sharon - I think I recall you have a Jack Russell terrier. Bring him along.
Good idea! He'd better all over them Except the vet bills would be huge. LOL
Wondering how fast they grow. If inch or 2 in dia how long before it to late harvest? I got a couple last year that were about 14" across and still nice and white.
This big one was still growing when I picked it but it was plenty enough to feed a horde of folks.

Nice one Smitty, is it from this year?
No me either, going for a ride on my ATV this morning, think they should be out anytime now.
I don't think it's been cool enough yet, at least around here. I like to see below 50° at night along with cold rains. Not that I wont be checking anyway lol.
Cheers
I moved a dark puff ball last year , spread it around in a new place. It will be interesting to see if the spores started to grow. Usually first week of September, is when they show up, here. old243
Attachment 35762 Finally found one, odd shape, it was growing between two rocks. On the BBQ with lots of garlic butter tonight! Prefer BBQ over fan fried.
Found one last week at my usual spot. Still looked white on the outside but when I went to pick it it split and was yellow inside. Bummer. I'll go back and check after out next wet cool weather.
Cheers
Found this one a few weeks ago. See the sunglasses in front, it was no good to eat but the biggest I've seen.

waiting for cover to come down before I start looking hard in Ottawa area. Found two smaller ones on the weekend though.
Great recipe:
Slice 1/2 to 1 inch pieces
Brush with Olive Oil salt and pepper on both sides
Let rest for a few minutes
Grill till brown on both sides
Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and enjoy.
Found 1 today little bit bigger than a soccer ball. sliced a couple of thin slices pan fried in butter and a couple of slivers of garlic. Melted in my mouth.
Question can it be stored hopeing to try it on the barbecue tomorrow but what about the rest?
I saw a few smaller sized puffballs last week, are they still edible after a heavy frost?
