Closest we have on here to a secret agent is Gilroy? He's not a "new" hunter, but rather an "old" hunter? I think he mimics the secret squirrel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S_F9U9gNEQ
Sounds like a not very effective way to catch poachers.
99.9999% of the "Can I.../Is it legal to..." debates and posts are experienced guys doing mental exercises and digging around in the Regulation and Regulatory Acts wondering if they are understanding them correctly.
Poachers are not going to be asking questions and offering to take "Strangers" out.
Dr.Evil your back again.

I think I've finally caught the gist of what you're asking, with help from a few others?
I doubt very much the CO's are going to come on here and try to sting someone, in the notion you're referring to. There's lots of action for them out there waiting for their attention, without them having to pose as a new hunter looking for a mentor on this site?
Thread thoroughly hijacked.....
I wouldn't doubt it. I would bet that they have looked on here before.
I seen a thread on gunnutz about a guy that made a bad joke about firearms on facebook and he had RCMP show up and confiscate all his guns, He had to hire a lawyer and spend lots of money just to clear his name and get his guns back.
I cant comment on what he said, But watch what you say and do online, Its only going to get worse. Maybe in 20 years they will look back on here and we will all be threats to society because we hunt and kill animals for sport. Some people already think we are psychotic.

Knowing what damage a firearm can do, we as hunters are generally the most careful and safety minded. But our quietness makes us an easy target for the emotional trash and violence of the Anti's and the Left.
They forced the Jews to wear yellow stars, and the LBGT people to wear Purple triangles. What will they make us wear? A red and white three ring bullseye maybe. I wonder, will they starve us, work us to death or Ironically just line us up and shoot us.
Yea a LEO misrepresenting him/her/person self to entrap someone wouldn't go over well with a judge. Silly for them to even attempt anything like that.
Your right BM, right from the horses mouth...the CO's have become complaint driven. They will respond and take a boo if someone calls them.
COs here or on FB would be more likely to just read & take notes than to go to the trouble of impersonating a newbie, I would think.

Up at the hunt camp we communicate via two way radio. One of the guys mentioned that he had passed a ministry truck on the way down to his watch. One of the other guys asked if he had the dyke with him, an OPP officer. The next thing we heard " I'm not a dyke" They do monitor 2 way radios...
LEO "misrepresent" themselves all the time, it is called "undercover" work. No entrapment .
Still quite a long shot trying to get your hooks into someone that way.... unless..mmmmmm... maybe they are targeting a certain individual, say like on this forum maybe ???
Interesting...........
It's not as easy as that....and why we have judges.
Quote:
The law of entrapment in Canada is intended to prevent the police from attracting someone who is not already involved in criminal activity into committing a crime by offering an opportunity to commit a criminal act. This is known as random virtue-testing. When determining whether the police engaged in random virtue-testing, the police conduct must be assessed for its reasonableness.
Reasonable suspicion is a low standard to meet and requires proof that the individual targeted is possibly engaged in criminal activity. It is something more than a mere suspicion and something less than a belief based on reasonable and probably grounds. The facts must support the suspicion and allow for an independent judicial assessment. It is important to consider the totality of circumstances when assessing the existence of reasonable suspicion. The inquiry must consider the constellation of objectively discernable facts that are said to give the investigating officer reasonable cause to suspect that an individual is involved in the type of criminal activity under investigation. This inquiry must be fact-based, flexible, and grounded in common sense and practical, everyday experience. A police officer’s grounds for reasonable suspicion can’t be assessed in isolation.
The court has the power to stay proceedings if entrapment is established.*
I hate to pop your bubble,MikePal,but, that technique is SOP for the RCMP. They're the grand masters of deception when they get their hooks into the bad guys. It's a criminal offense to lie to Police, but, there's absolutely no law against LEO's lying their a**es off to get a crook into prison.
Oh yes there is ...
And there are judges who don't like it....just goggle "Mr. Big' and see how many have been thrown out of court or are now being re-tried.

A lot of 'stings' don't work because of entrapment laws and ones where they troll an internet forum in the hopes of finding some sap doing something wrong would be a huge waste of resources the MNR doesn't have.
Now putting a robot deer on the side of the road and catch idiots who shot it...well that might be considered entrapment but far more of the evidence gathered is self incrimination. HaHa...
The "Mr.Big" case was a blatant attempt to coerce information and was a "one-of" instance. "John stings" to combat prostitution and human trafficing,"financial stings" to capture fraudsters and other undercover operations have all been ruled by the SCOC as being a legitimate tool for law enforcement. I have a successful past history with those types of operations and they're very effective. Assumptions that street-level law enforcement doesn't "keep an eye" on forums, threads and websites like these is a mistake. National security intel-gathering units absolutely survey all sites for threats against government figures and can act quickly to mitigate threats. That's why it's very prudent to take great care on what one posts on these social media sites.
The examples I posted were the first 3 (all different) in a long list on google...there was an 'original' Mr Big...but it now is used as a common 'sting' theme name..
I find it hard to believe a CO would try to infiltrate a Hunt Camp as a newbie and then try to catch them doing something nefarious....makings of a Benny Hill episode HaHa...
Your right...once you hit 'enter' there is a whole raft of data bases around the world that inspect & dissect your post/messages..
Years ago a CO friend of mine was supposed to meet with my group to give us the lay of the land and point us in the right direction in an area that was entirely new to us. In the week leading up to the hunt I couldn't get in touch with him at all and needless to say the gang was getting concerned.
We ended up going on the hope that he would come through and he did end up meeting us shortly after arriving. When I asked him why we couldn't reach him he said it was because he just spend a week undercover as a "newbie" in a moose hunt camp who had no idea he was a CO.
Benny Hill or not, it happens.
He has a number of other tales that might surprise you too.

Happens all the time including other teams doing the same in different departments. ..
People are out to lunch if they dont think they pose as others or just make up stories for others to open up on. They cover the entire internet on all forums and other sites. There is always a dummies who talks to much.
Where are the drug cops same place as you doing the same thing .drinking beers and shooting the sh in a pub or club .

My local CO is a good guy! He's also ready to retire and only looking for the big offences! Lol
He doesn't even ask for my game seal anymore.. :)
I did read once in the news a few years ago that the Police regularly monitor Gun related Forums,Gun Nutz was actually named as one of the sites as well they said most sites are watched.
Between some of the threads on CGN, and some of the FB pages like the NFA, they certainly have a ton of material to review. Most folks are respectful, there are some real tinfoil hat types, and more than a few who are subtly hinting at armed rebellion.
In some cases, I don't think monitoring is necessarily a bad thing, particularly if it involves the possibility of a criminal / terrorist attempting to procure firearms or explosives.
Well we know the NSA is surveilling civilians on a large scale, so it's probably safe to assume the forums are being monitored in come capacity. I know that was south of the border, but I doubt it's much different here.
If it catches poachers, and foils conspiring for criminal activity I am all for it.
Y eh some are fascinated by me, I consider him one of my groupie,s but don,t feel bad there are a few on the same list. LOL
Unfortunately for them they come across badly as they have on this thread, its to bad the moderators did not sanction them when the thread was hijacked by Bushmoose in post 3 and they continued in post 4,5,6......the usual suspects with a history of one line posts that contribute nothing to the forum.
I hope you can comprehend the difference between rebuttal,s to the "stir the pot" comments made by Bushmoose in his post #3.
The description is found in the below forum rules which perhaps you and the others might like to read.
3(b). Personal attacks on members, cyber bullying, libel comments or bashing/slandering of businesses, organizations, individuals or corporations will not be tolerated. Threads deemed to be an attempt to "stir the pot" or are looking for support on their attack will be removed. If you have an issue with a particular organization, business or corporation, please contact them directly. If you have an issue with a particular member, please contact the administrator or a moderator.
Instead of doing that why don,t you read the rules which you should know by now,its bad enough you "hijack" the original thread to "stir the pot" in post #3 but then you continue in post #60 with NO CONSIDERATION to the original poster.
If you have an issue with a particular member, please contact the administrator or a moderator.
This sentence is found in the last section of 3(b) if you have a issue with me I would suggest the same instead of wreaking the forum for you entertainment.
And it all turned to crap once again. Thread closed!
