I've been sourcing food from local farms and places I've never normally been a customer of in order to avoid the chaos. Its beneficial for them as well as myself. Other than that just don't be close to people.
Local butcher was like any other day any meat you wanted from box of 60 frozen burger patties to steak bacon ham pepperttes which by the way you can’t stop at just one
Sourcing bread may be the next big thing
I prepared by stocking the pantry last week, but could use a little more. Wife and kids are at the cottage, and I am home under quarantine. I believe they're coming back Saturday, so I'll disinfect tomorrow, and they can can stay with family until monday or so, as it will be my turn at the cottage for a week or two. I filled all my Jerri cans about two weeks ago, just in case. Still have venison in the freezer, but wish I had a better supply from ice fishing. Other than that, just avoiding people in general.
Not a lot in way of preparation. Pretty much everything is good to go.
I did get 100lbs of potatoes but that'll be gone in 10 weeks at my normal pace anyway.
Checked out and cleaned up my "worst case" residence, don't see any need for it but may use it as a get away anyhow.
Mental preparation for the poop show that may come down the pipe. I'm certainly not concerned about collapse of society but just having plans made for the little things.
Alternate activities for kids is the biggest part of what I'm doing. No museums and the like means fishing, bonfires, sledding and a whole host of other things need to be planned for.

We stocked up on staples and non-perishables, not a panic buy but a few things over the last few weeks. I always love oatmeal for breakfast anyway and most of the stuff will last a long time if it needs to. And if it doesn’t get used it will go to a food bank later.
Filled all my gas cans because that’s a lot cheaper than it used to be. Was going to grab a couple more cans but the stores are sold out, and then I remembered that I had the 2 portable fuel tanks in my boat so I filled those today.
Keeping the kids occupied is another job. With a little encouragement the wife got busy sorting through old stuff and clearing out junk.
Got my son to help fill my garage wood box today, I always keep 2/3 face cord inside and dry.
For my faimly we are prepared but for my mom 85 and lives on her own I need to get stuff for her tomorrow I will be cleaning everything down for her and leaving it for her on the porch her
Last time I was at the store there wasn't a single bag of flour to be had. I still have enough for now but I was very surprised. I also make my own bread regularly.
Last week I bought some canned food and a few other items. We are not going overboard and are now shopping at the grocery store in the small town near us. Avoiding contact with others. Lots of game meat and fish in the freezer. Using messenger to video chat with relatives.
1) Medical and First Aid ... to suppress fever, cough, decongestants ... not to fight COVID, but to try and prolong need for third party treatment ... because our system isn't going to be able to even test us fast enough. Important to have a thermometer ... as the hospitals don't seem to want to test unless you can prove you have a temperature, preferably a thermometer that is indirect ... so you don't pass it onto anyone else. Also, alcohol, peroxide, hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, goggles/glasses, band aids, etc.
2) Non-perishables and drinks ... flour (with rising agents to make bread), pasta, rice, oatmeal, grains, cereals, sugar, salt, pepper, cured meats (salami) and cheeses (parmesan), preserves (sauces, pickles, peppers), frozen fruits, frozen meats (take out of packaging into ziplocks to save space in freezer), high energy food like peanut butter (check shelf life), chocolate bars, energy bars, canned beans, chips, cookies. Also energy drinks, coffee, cold drinks, wine and beer (a must in my house!). Water, preferably in larger bottles (5 to 10 gallons). Oil, vinegar. These should all be things with at least 1 year shelf life, and stuff that you WILL eat normally/anyhow.
3) Cash on hand. Some may even stash 1 oz silver, 1 gram gold bars. Figure out what you will need in an emergency.
4) Fuel/propane/fire wood, especially if you need to run a generator.
5) Cleaning agents ... hand soap, dish soap, laundry agents, surface cleaners, Lysol spray, wipes, garbage bags. Paper towels, toilet paper, rags.
6) Hardware ... power tools, hand tools, screws, nails, bolts, wood pieces, cables, quick ties, etc.
7) Vehicle ... fluids, oil, compressor, tire pressure gauge.
I probably missed a few things ... but you get the point. Now, this might seem to be over the top, like we are preparing for war ... but here's the catch ... (1) being prepared is being prepared, and (2) probably you already have 80% to 90% of this stuff laying around ... just need to find it. And this final point is probably the most important ... be organized, know where to find everything ... I have a section in my house for each of the above groups.
I doing the same thing I have all my life. Just shop when I need something and do not stock more than a week supply of anything.
This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion .
10,000 deaths world wide is nothing to worry about.
The regular flue kills more than that.
Judge.
Covid, is nothing like the flu. People seriously need to accept that. Yes, the media has added to the hysteria. That does not change the fact, Covid is nothing like the flu.
Do you want 1 way of knowing that, without me linking all kinds of articles?
When was the last time, in your life, or your parents. You saw with your own eyes, an image of not 1, not 2, trucks but a convoy of military trucks carting the dead out of a city...........
In the US yesterday. While we can’t trust their stats, one came out.
38% of cases are people under 50.
50% of those in ICU are under 65.
While I have never seen convoys of military trucks carting the dead out of cities. I don’t think I’ve heard of a flu season, where half the people in ICU are so young either
Mind boggling that there are still people like you out there who have this opinion? It's folks like you who make me think the gov't invoking the "Emergency Measures Act" is the only recourse left to wake you up. I would encourage you to listen to what is happening in the world right now and pay heed.
Go into the other tread I posted a video this morning that compares all of the viruses in the last 20 years.
You will be quite shocked at the results. That's 10 thousand in citys that have virtually locked down prisoners in the their own homes.
If China didn't build a hospital in 8 days they would of had thousands more.
We are on track for a half billion deaths by the end of the year . That's far more than the 120 thousand yearly.

Winds picking up here in the south
Plug in your rechargeable if it’s a lantern flashlight or if you have one of those genus battery jumpers. You can plug your phone in to recharge

People need to consider this.
Where do you see panic Trimmer?
That might come, yet. But other than some people, a small percentage running out and buying stupid amounts of TP, and some other things.
There’s no panic.
Yet...
Plus the regular flu deaths ,heart attacks and strokes. Just add all that to the list hospitals are doing. They got alot on their plate.
Give it a few more weeks here we will be in the same boat hundreds of extra deaths per day plus the regular stuff.
The pm in not ruling out the possibility of a complete shutdown.

I'm fully aware of what's going on but I'm not going to worry about it. I just want to make it to the 3rd Saturday in May and I'll leave the worrying up to you guys.
Just living and eating out of my truck. That's a pretty normal routine. Only interact with people at shipper/recieving, or fuel stops.
Will have to get groceries in the next couple days.
Not because of real shortages (there are panic shortages, which seem to be hurting those most vulnerable) but remember to prep because you don't want to go out ... planning and thinking are what is required for now and hopefully like H1N1 etc. we will return to stability quickly.... a vaccine is atleast a year out likely but "das ist leben" .... people put their faith in place and go on. Some still have faith in a guy that thinks budgets balance themselves and dictatorships are to be admired.... other in themselves etc.
Of course think toward what if... but .... well so many are not thinking ... and this shouldn't be a catastrophe for your only prepping.. :scream::moose:

(hope I got a smile or two)
Now over the next couple weeks, metro is taking orders 10 days from now
https://www.metro.ca/en/online-groce...its-vegetables
LCBO is pickup at store or at post office.
https://www.lcbo.com/content/lcbo/en...-response.html
Fortinos requires an ID to pick a slot.... probably several days of more ahead as a GUESS
https://delivery.fortinos.ca/?utm_so...=web-referral#
If you have potatoes or rice etc. UberEats and DoorDash are doing no contact deliveries.... what we have done when busy is pick a few dishes (including from Mandarin), cook up the rice or what ever and you can spread out a delivery over 3 or 4 meals.... a nice break if that works for you.
Grocery Gateway and others in Brampton... outside the GTA it will get hard, maybe you can be the delivery for those that can't, maybe pick up for an older neighbour or relative and arrange to drop at their door so they can stay in.
https://bramptonist.com/online-groce...y-in-brampton/
Walmart, Shoppers....
https://www.instacart.ca/grocery-delivery/brampton-on
Did a trial food pick up in grocery parking lot. Went well. But only had 50% of what I ordered. Got enough for two months. Filled gas cans.
It won’t take much more trouble.
If society brakes down. No one will be prepared.
Not unless you have enough supplies to outlast the rest and a safe place to hide... so 99.9999% essentially are not prepared for the 1 in a billion absolute worst.
Remember at gas stations everyone uses the handles.... and to do a bit of fear mongering .... maybe on the way to the hospital. Wash hands and maybe have a sanitizer in the car!
P.S.
Don't forget medications and pet foods.... I renewed my meds the other day over a "phone appointment", I never set foot in the office and they faxes it to the drug store I go to.
OH... and COFFEE ... https://www.blackriflecoffee.ca/coll...warriors-blend
We have an order to pick up between 5 and 6 pm today. Got a small order of groceries there was no spots available yesterday . We will try out this service see how it is. Apparently they load it directly into your trunk [emoji106]
Also we had a box of goods dropped off at the post office that was ordered when the panic shoppers hoarded the stores last weekend. We know them well at at the post office and received a text the other day and said they had a heavy box for us lol. We always at the post office anyway.
So many ways to distant yourself from others.

A video by Sky News from Italy.... the conclusion, prepare! Canada has a new death, 13 now and 1087 cases CONFIRMED. Hall way medicine to the extreme!
https://www.facebook.com/LuigiDiMaio...2798744233465/
Samaritan's purse even sent a team to Italy..
https://www.samaritanspurse.ca/artic...pens-in-italy/
I pray we won't need them here too!
.... and if you don't ..... $1000 for individuals...

I did very little to prepare because I always have a good supply of essentials on hand, food in the freezer, canned goods in the pantry. I did have to make a quick trip to the liquor store though.
My continuing preparations are to ignore most of the media reports and particularly the on-line hysterics predicting half a billion deaths in the coming year, that we are at Armageddon, economic collapse will happen and other carriers of the disease otherwise known as panic.
Maybe that's why there's shortage of toilet paper. Too many morons constantly sh-tting themselves.
If we cant get control of this and they cant discover a vaccine its bad news. Without control or vaccine if this spreads like the flu every year like its it's doing, most people wont make it to 80 and if you do, you won't make it to 85, according the death rate by age...
Yes as of yesterday 75 million people are in lock down. Probably more today aswell as it continues to spread. .
Is fishing classified as essential lol.
The jumbos will start in the rivers in a few weeks when the ice buggers off. .
Oh well if not it's only going to help the population grow for next season. They already closed a favorite last ice location. They blocked the access to the park .

I'm sure we are follow right behind the USA, glad I have all I need for a few months
California,New York and New Jersey are calling it a "lock down",but, really, they aren't doing anything differently than we're already doing with all non-essential business closings,no public gatherings over 50 people and stay home orders except for excursions for food and fuel. Americans are used to a degree of liberty that we've never had in this country and it's not sitting well with them. It's obvious that it's going to be a huge issue for them.
As of Tuesday midnight all non-essential businesses are closed in Ontario for 2 weeks.
My wife works for Pharma and the FDA cleared a path for drug companies to develop a vaccine or a cure for COVID-19. They are hopeful they will have some trials soon.
Is it really going to make that great of an impact? Hardware stores can still remain open, gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies. So, you can't go shopping for clothes.... who wants to bet the entire walmart stays open because they have a grocery department?

There will be no impact what so ever.......other than the I am getting my Indian take out fix tonight because they will be closed for 2 weeks. Good opportunity to get some things done around the house and get those work eLearning courses done and out of the way with.
Ford orders all non-essential business to close tomorrow. Getting real now
I find the more you bleed the faster service you receive [emoji5][emoji106].
South lake is great some times they have the 1 hour fast track in and out lol. Usually more than a hour tho.
King city I was in 15 minutes. Bleeding from the top of my head. I said I need a few stitches they said I would have to wait my turn and no doctor was able to see me.
I took the rag off my head and stopped holding the wound closed ,the blood ran down my the side of me head. They immediately took me in [emoji1787][emoji1787].
They didn't want to clean up the mess as I just let it bleed lol. A few stitches and I was out with 15 minutes back at work.
Another time at Southlake 4 hours waiting for 47 stitches she wasn't a bleeder bled like snot for 1 minutes then stopped when I put a towel on it. Its pretty insane to see the inside of you without any blood. 3 rows of inside stitches and 17 on out side .

THAT was good !
Ironically - About a year I posted a question and asked if we had any preppers here. I require nothing.
Lets just say, provided the power and water stays on - I have no need to leave my house for a year.
If the power goes out - I will have power and water for 60 days
Yeast - 10lbs of Red Star (Mexico) from Costco frozen in freezer - 120lbs of flour - 250lbs of Red Wheat berries and 3 gain mills
First aid/Meds/Antibiotics - I have 100 X 500mg pills of the 10 most common antibiotics - vacuum sealed, ready for use - and a nurse for a wife
Salt/Sugar - 250lbs - Honey/Maple Syrup 60/80lbs
Solar power - genset/s with enough gas to run 6hrs per day for 2 months
Canned/Dehydrated/preserves for 1 yr
Firearms - all good, reloading with components stocked
I have been out twice (for elderly neighbour) and for myself and got Milk/Butter and fresh garlic and wont need those once we move to homestead (delay because of this)
I did not buy a single panic item, I had no reason to and yet I watched the panic buying going, long lines, people couldn't find yeast or flour for two first weeks. The lines and great social experiment that is going is only confirms everything I have done to be prepared.
The biggest thing I have noticed is people are now thinking about food security - people now have been exposed to fragility of 3 day.."just in time delivery service" (trucking industry) and how quickly it will be gone when a real event occurs. My hope and dream is that, this event inspires people to think about self sufficiency - back to the land movement and being more responsible for your own food security.
For those that wonder:
I am a non essential government worker who has defied my union advice and goes into work 3 days week to keep people paid.
My wife is a Nurse
My Son is a cashier at Loblaws
My daughter is living off internet - not sure where she is the house at anytime...
We have adjusted our lives to be safe without the restriction of EMA. We are doing what we can do to help our neighbors - as this event has a return to normal end state.
Be kind and help with you got, I have baking bread products since first day of lockdown and giving to neighbours, posting how to online (get more followers then my political posts for cooking basics..lol)
Seems were are now forced to shop more often for basics. Normally we'd buy a flat of soups or can milk, paper products or whatever when it comes on sale. We never considered it hoarding. Now, we can only buy 2 of this or two of that which means we now have to go back to the store. More trips, more gas...…….
Put your maple syrup in deep freezer if your holding large volumes maple syrup in glass tin or plastic bottle are fine in deep freezer. It won’t freeze solid I’ve never froze honey
Freezing maple syrup will keep sugar from settling out into crystals
