Apprentice gets another first
With some time to spare this afternoon I decided to go out and try to call in some raccoons with my neighbours boy. .
We went to one of the farms I have permission to hunt. We went for a walk to seek out a few old trees that may be holding raccoons (hiding/sleeping in them).
This is his very first time out for raccoons. I usually do this raccoon calling a few times a year and usually manage to get a few to come out and have a look, today was no different. This fellow came out on the third tree we tried. He was our only taker this afternoon.

Nice. Only good coon is a dead coon. Looks to be a good size as well.

Has too much time on their hands
Nice! I'm sure his first coyote is soon to follow!

Never heard of calling them, if you can explain I would appreciate. Normally I walk the bush on nice sunny days in the winter and find them sunning in squirrel nests or crooks of trees trying to warm up some.

I basically find an old dead tree that has a few holes in it, put my ecaller on the opposite side and start playing raccoon fighting sounds for a minute and then play raccoon pup distress for another minute, If 2-3 minutes pass by and no raccoon comes out to investigate the sound, I move to another tree...
here is a post I put up in the past......It is a pretty cool way to spend an afternoon.
