Cost of trapping course and license?
I am curious, what is the cost of taking the trapping course and getting your license? How often do you have to renew?
If you are only trapping private land do you have to make a quota?
I am curious as to what is involved.
Thanks

It was in the 160$ dollar range about five years ago when my son and I took it. Its 39.55 + 11.30 to OFMF to renew yearly. There is no mandatory quota on private land but depending on the area there could be zero quota for certain species. The course is 40 hours. We did two weekends, 10 hour days. There is a mandatory harvest report due every June.

What happens if you do not meet the quota for a species?
My attitude towards you depends upon how you have treated me.

Wow. I did not realize there was a penalty system on trappers to meet quotas.
Geesh....really gotta be dedicated.
Is it the trapping association who gives out the fines?

MNRF is the management body when it comes to the quota system

You need at least 75% of your beaver quota if you are on a registered trap line only. If you trap in southern Ontario, your license will tell you what you can or cannot trap.
