He smacked the guy in the head for no reason at all, while the guy was handcuffed, and then when the guy complained about being smacked, he punched him twice in the face. And had no reasonable grounds for the search that turned up the evidence. All the charges thrown out because the cop overstepped his bounds.

I know all kinds of stories, all of them true. But the fact that things happen doesn't make them common. How many times do Ottawa police interact with the public every day, without punching anyone in the face for no reason? Perspective.
The fact is I heard it directly from police officers, that's a big the difference from your made up "story" and mine being reliable. In fact I know a few RCMP as well and one was a very high ranking officer for many years and now retired. You said rare and i said not rare, never said common. It will be interesting to see how many more forum members contribute to this thread on actual true accounts of CO'S or police officers etc. abusing their authority . If it were one story on this forum then yes that would confirm your hunch of being rare. I think not.

But they still charged three guys for it. They had decoys and bottles with yellow labels in the decoy bags with them. So you see they tried to attract wildlife with them, or at least that is the way Alberta Fish & Wildlife saw it. But the rest of the story changes your option I am sure.
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

Why is it some don't understand there are bad apples in all walks of life, and it only takes a few............

All of my encounters with COs have been pleasant, yes pleasant.
Can I say same with respect to LEO. lol, no. I've had good, including the day a detective near took his own thumb off fooling around with the switchblade he removed me...I seriously thought I was in a world of hurt that day,....but in the end they let me go. And I've had "Alpha Males" exert their authority without cause, reason and I have been given a message (read in to that what you will).

I find it hard people think that police abusing their authority is rare, when without question the public trust is at an all time low. Things happen for reasons..might as well argue the world is flat in this case. Dangerously low. Thankfully its not as low and bad as in the US and I don't think (hope) it will get that low and bad here. But for the time being things are getting worse, not better.

It only takes one sour incident, to ruin ones impression and tarnish their image for someone. And thats also why they ( law enforcement) are supposed to get it.

    Tip of the iceberg.

Hardly made up that, nor anecdotal here say. And thats just the ones that have caught/reported......
might as well argue the world is flat, there are reasons the public trust is so low.......and lets hope it never gets as bad as it currently is in the US.

And with respect to people not fighting charges. Been there done that to.
As others have said for people who enjoy the outdoors. Taking a day off work or more and travelling to some distant district to stand before a JP. Might cost more, than the actual fine (s) depending the devil details. It's not hard to figure out, why many might just elect to pay.

Every single encounter I've had with a CO has been pleasant. Talking this and that, etc, etc.
But it only takes one and only one incident to turn a persons image sour.

Stories like that WILL cause more hunters to pull out the cell phone video camera when a CO enters into the picture.

Story from March 23, 2017 in The Star. A guy walking up his driveway was taken down at gunpoint and forced to the ground by the police in a mistaken identity incident. First thing out of his mouth to his girlfriend was to record what was happening.

This is peoples first line of defence against 'the system'.

Reading some of the stories about pot growing had me chuckle. I was leaving my hunting area (archery deer) which is accessed by a road allowance. I turned around and saw a guy quickly duck into the brush. I waved to let him know I saw him, so he approached me for some idle chit chat. He was not the outdoors kinda guy. And since it was the first week of October I figured he was growing pot somewhere close by. Never did see him again.
