Like Fox mentioned, you will not be hunting so those regs don't apply, as long as you can legally use a gun, crossbow or leg trap in your area.

Set up a bait pile and watch it.

    Hi All

Sorry this took so long. We seem to have gotten this yote on Family day (yes February).
All weird yote activity ended that day. At least until now. We just lost 3 chickens today. More on this below.

On Family Day I looked out the back window and saw a yote about 300' from the house. I got my son and the 12 gauge and 243 and we went back to the window. We were back-lit and it didn't seem to care we were there. It was looking right at us from 60 yards where it was eating apples that fell in the fall. My son opened the squeaky screen door to shoot it and it kept eating apples. 60 yards, 243 Winchester 58 grain varmint X and it was dead right there. Not even a twitch.
Given the distance we expected it would be a mess. I skinned it out. There was a 1 1/2" entry hole and the bullet fragments got stuck just inside the hide. No exit wound. Pretty impressive round.
This guy seems to have had a rough life shortly before we got him. He had about a 2" tear in his neck that seemed pretty fresh and bite marks on a front and back leg. He also had a broken canine tooth. He weighed in at 37 lbs. Unfortunately I shot the pics on my now dead old cell phone. I plan on cleaning the skull (it's in the "meat freezer" as we call it). I'll post some pics of it and the hide when I'm done the skull.

About today's kills. I just got back from 3 days away. We have about 35 chickens free ranging about 300' behind the house. We haven't had a problem with yotes and chickens for a long time. While I'm around I drive the ATV around a lot and pee on the property lines where the yotes leave trails. My wife did neither while I was away. This afternoon we looked out and saw a yote catching a chicken. By the time I got a gun it was gone with the chicken. When I went back there I found feathers from 3 different chickens (different breed and colours). No more free ranging for a while. At least 2 of the 3 were young roosters so destined for the freezer so not as big a loss as a breeding hen. We've had aluminum pie plates hanging from the trees for over a month (the sheep farmers association suggests this sort of thing to scare off the yotes). Unfortunately I didn't change them for a new object after 2 weeks as the sheep farmers suggest. Today we have shiny whirligigs.

    Have a Great Day

    Good job on that yote!
I have free range chickens and guinea fowl.
....unfortunately they are the best bait for coyotes...
We had a really bad, "crew" of bold yotes. Coming right up to my pool in the middle of the afternoon with me 15' away, tackling one of my dogs (yote got an azz kicking) and in general, just being a bunch of brazen little creeps.
Long story short, a hunter came in (who is now my mentor) and blasted them....have not lost a bird since
Someone on here said, "The only good yote is a dead yote."....I agree.
My attitude towards you depends upon how you have treated me.

1 1/2" entrance hole from a .243 bullet? You sure he did not hit something on the way or have the bullet blow up in flight?

I've shot a lot of yotes with the 58's......I've never seen a 1.5 inch entry hole, but the exit is another story ! Brutal round !!

I think it's similar to dog crap. Just toss it in the garbage. Maybe some tsp if there is s skid mark on the concrete. Lol

Ya, it should be a .243 entrance and unless you get lucky a nasty exit.
