Russian Boar Pet
I saw on facebook last night that someone was searching for they're lost 'pet' a russian boar. Is that legal if its considered an invasive species? I wanted to ask on the post but I didn't want to get chewed up by the facebook police. I also wanted to point out that there are parts of ontario where the MNR allows people to kill them, but I figured I'd be really upsetting people looking for this lost pet.

It's legal to have Wild Boar game farms that sell to restaurants, exotic pet zoos, etc...so if someone in those businesses allows family member to keep one as pet on the farm, that is probably legal but would fall under tight controls.
More context and the facts behind the to the story are needed or we'll end up going round and round with further speculation and 'what if' scenarios.
edit add;....it looks like the law governing exotic pets in Ont are left up to municipal by-laws...

yeah for sure.... Like I said, i almost commented on it and asked but figured I'd ask on here. Not trying to stir the pot on anything or turn this into a 12 page flame fest that ends up talking about cougars or something completely different. haha
Thanks mike

yup..not that long ago...
Blair, a hunter, said he shot the boar because he was aware of a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry edict from 2014 allowing farmers, landowners or hunters to shoot wild, or feral boars on sight as nuisance animals. In addition to the damage and disease concerns, wild boars can also pose a threat to people.
It never crossed his mind the animal might have been a pet.
“I think I was justified in what I did,” said Blair, who only learned the boar had been a pet after the Sun published the story online on Thursday. "This couldn’t be worse."

Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

It adds something else to think about for hunters, without doubt, but,if I found one or two running loose in the woods,I still wouldn't hesitate to take them out. It's not illegal to do so,in Ontario, and it can slow down the proliferation of a feral species tearing up the countryside, hence, the edict from OMNRF asking that any hogs running loose be shot on sight. Besides,it's free meat and smoked hams and bacon are delicious.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

You may feel bad for the family that lost a pet, but what can you do. Same thing with cats. I am sorry fluffy did not come home but maybe fluffy should have been kept in the house and not let roam miles away in the bush.
Look at this way. At least the pet( cat/pig ) was not eaten alive by a bear/coyote(wolf) pack/cougar/martin/hawk/owl/eagle......

How many people on here can honestly say, that if they where sitting in their tree stand or blind, and a wild or feral pig walked by you wouldn’t shoot it?
