First off MEC is a publicly held company - NOT a private company. Secondly CDN Tire sells guns where I am, and have a great selection at that, and is not the point of the post. As far as KMart goes........never shopped there - barely remember it

I'll bet CSSA and CCFR are doing alright, too.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

C’mon people...why be upset with MEC. After all, they’re an outdoor and camping store...not a hunting store. Geez
    I don't wear bows - I shoot them.

If a company wants to make a political statement then be prepared to face the heat.

I think the MEC reaction was a disingenuous attempt at political correctness blatantly pandering to the "anti" crowd which,to a large extent, the "anti-hunting,anti-firearm trendy set" being their largest customer base. If alienating the section of their customer base that happen to be hunters is how they want to run their business, then, that's on them if/when it blows up in their face.

Exactly the reason they should mind their own business! It doesn't bother you that they are essentially telling you that you, as a hunter or sport shooter, are not welcome there? Your (favorite?) pastime is so revolting to the company and its membership that is is willing to boycott dozens or hundreds of products that have nothing to do with your pastime because they are from brands that are owned by another brand that happens to own some other brand that manufactures firearms that are vaguely similar to a firearm that was used by a psychopath to kill people? The connection between your pastime and the issue that they are protesting against is so distant, but the company has no problem making a public statement against your pastime. The situation is ridiculous, and the worst part about it is that the members and the board support it.
There are plenty of other companies that provide many of the same products and welcome hunters and sport shooters with open arms. Why give your money to a company who's management and majority of other customers don't want you there?

That's right - if some company goes against what you believe don't support them in anyway - personally I've been doing that all my life - if I see some company put on an advertisement that I don't like I don't buy their product - I would rather pay more someplace else than support such a company - if enough people did that you would get these political correct wimps to wise up

I understand what you are saying, and agree with some of it, but you should know that this is the same thing that MEC's other customers (the politically correct wimps, as you call them) have threatened to do in an effort to get them to drop the products supplied by the company with ties to firearms. In the case in question, hunters and sport shooters are only a small fraction of the company's customers. At best, boycotting the company because of their decision is only an expression of preferences and beliefs - that's all - and that's fine. In this case it's naive to believe that if all hunters and sport shooters boycotted the company, it would cause the "political correct wimps to wise up".
