While the police should be commended about handling the situation, let's not forget the other first responders who headed into a crime scene to deal with the aftermath. They didn't know if another attack was coming or not. The ordinary people who tried to help the victims and the doctor's and nurses, especially at Sunnybrook, need to be commended for handling the massive casualties as well.

A reply to, 'can't blame the van'. I could not let that statement by a member, go unchallenged, just to show how foolish it is.

I have nothing but respect for the first responders and police who are and continue to help people, but I am seriously super impressed by the average people who leapt into action to render aid. It's got to be tough to suddenly find yourself giving compressions amidst all of the chaos and craziness to someone who is badly injured.

The ordinary people who helped may need help as well. They may need to speak with a professional especially if the victim they helped didn't make it. Having someone who you are trying to help expire in front of you stays with you for the rest of your life.

Yeah. I'm sure they were offered the help they need -- paramedics and emergency personnel were on the scene pretty quickly. I doubt anyone on this board needs counselling for this event, but it is a good idea to get help if you experience something traumatic... it's apparently easier to treat and deal with right away before it really sets in and manifests as something more damaging (like anxiety, phobias, etc.)

Facebook has confirmed that the suspect's incel posts are real before they shut it down. Incel stands for Involuntary Celibate on the internet referring to a condition where a person can't seem to engage in a sexual relationship with a member of the opposite sex. Taken to an extreme, the "Incel" starts to rant about how unfair it is that they can't get sex and could lash out. Elliot Roger's attack in California is believed to be a result of this phenomena.

I meant physiological help, not necessary physical help.

Hahaha I know! I'm just saying the paramedics and other on-site staff probably gave some counselling to the civilians who helped and let them know there are resources available. We seem to be on the same wavelength, buddy =)

There is a retired paramedic in my family, these first responders need counseling as much as anyone else, probably more.
