I would suggest having a forum of there own, on some of these popular fishing sites. They could do a little Q and A as well as informing people of some of the lesser known laws. A lot of us that have been fishing forever, have learned laws from various sources but I'm sure there are still some obscure laws that even avid fisherman don't know about or are confused about. When I talk to newbies about fishing they are completely oblivious to many of the laws.

They do its called the fishing guide in paper and on line. So if you got a newbie tell them to read cover to cover its all in there. Transport rules is not a lesser known rule. There is a 2 page spread even with pictures demonstrating proper and improper transport.
In the end rules were not followed because it wasn't known, it wasn't followed just because. So again how do you get the masses to follow the rules inspite of themselves?

Education, Radio, Newspaper, Workshops, and Warnings. Warnings absolutely work, in fact in some cases I believe they work better. I know when I've had run ins with authorities in the past and got a warning do to the fact that I was honest, I left with way more respect for them, because I realized they could just have done their "JOB" and fined me, but instead did their "JOB" and realized a warning was sufficient. After I was warned I learned my lesson and was thankful I didn't get fined, and told people about my experience, and we all learned.

Agreed most times warnings are issued until what happens most often you get into a situation like this....if I feel like not following the rules what than. We are subject to blitzs all the time
Long weekend road blitz, ride checks at holidays, school zone safety days come sept and so forth.
At those times zero tolerance other times you might get off with a warning. Sometimes education isn't enough. If it was you wouldn't have newbies that are clueless.

They weren't picked out of a crowd, the C.O.'S were just doing their job in checking them out, didn't comply with the rules, ticket was issued and they paid the fine admitting guilt.

Jaycee - I don't feel any guilt. Zero. The ministry is concerned with people catching fish out of season, and also keeping fish beyond the limit. I did neither of those things. My group probably threw back 40 picks. But a technicality says I transported fish illegally. The law is the law - so I pay. For me the worse thing that happened is 3 gorgeous fish will probably end up in the garbage. In the future I will do as many have suggested - leave the entire fillet on and remove it before cooking.

After hearing the story in full, I truly believe a warning would have been more then sufficient. imho.

Many years ago My Dad and a friend of his who was a CO took my brothers and I fishing for Landlock Salmon in NB at the Loch Lomond Lakes. My youngest brother was around 6 years old at the time. I remember when he caught that small Landlock as I knew the regulations quite well and said it looked undersized I think they had to be 14 inches this was about 13 inches. Dad's friend looked at my brother and asked him if it was his first Lanndlock it was. The CO looked at him and said "Sure looks like 14.5 inches to me". Just like a cop pulling someone over for speeding sometimes Discretion should be used. A fine is not always necessary.
