Very well put, you have to be crazy to go alone.

Even six weekend warriors will have a tough time dragging one to shore, or rolling into a boat, rolling out of boat etc. Give it a heave ho and you're moving 6 inches at a time. Even once quartered a front quarter will weigh a couple hundred pounds. At least half the moose we have shot have been just before dusk, so most of the work was done in the dark to boot which ads a whole other challenge!

The last two moose I got, both bulls, I hunted alone. Its about working smart, not fast. The last moose, a 3 yr old bull I had to break ice with the canoe then make one portage to the animal. The heavy pieces I lay on a tarp and slid each one to the canoe. It took all day but I got everything to the truck by dark. Slept for 2 days though.

The last bull we took was shot at 2PM 6 kms. from the nearest trail through swamps and muskeg. It took 4 ATV's and 6 guys to get the big SOB (1175lbs. gutted) back to the main trail, chainsaws and comealongs every inch of the way in a driving down pour and freezing rain. We got back to the trail head at 7:30 and at camp at midnight. We didn't lose one pound of meat and the hide was prime. That was the year we went up only 8 guys. We could have used 4 more. It was the biggest bull we'd ever seen in that area and word spread fast with the other camps. It was like a parade until 6AM and the best shytekicker party we ever had. We haven't drawn a tag since.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Last Moose I shot alone at first legal light was a calf at 250 yd from the road. Quartered it and made some straps with rope to haul a quarter at a time like a packsack and made 5 trips to the truck. Easy peazy, was home eating tenderloin by 10:00 AM. It doesn't matter what size Moose we shoot, the first thing we do is quarter it. Cools down faster, gets rid of all the blood and unwanted parts and easier to handle.
