The LAW only requires your weapon to be unloaded and totally encased at the end of legal time for turkeys or 1/2 hr after sunset for everything else. No where does the law state that you need to make a hasty exit from the woods. The CO can surmise and accuse anything he wants to BUT as long as the weapon is encased you've complied to the law. If it gets in court and it's he said, she said, the CO will look pretty stupid.
Even better if your real paranoid then record your conversation with the CO. I got checked in Quebec, on a lake, and when the CO's showed up I had my GoPro on my head running the entire time. I don't know if all CO's are the same but these two were the most polite I ever met. Before they left - they asked if it was on. I just smiled!
On another note why can't you just switch over and call coyotes from 7pm till dark? Thin out some of those buggers!

Skeeter that’s an interesting point...what if I switch to coyote hunting at 7pm? What then? Seems like these rules are so open ended.

As long as the turkey decoys and calls are not in use. It's pretty hard for anyone, CO or not, to interpret intent. If you get stopped you state your case firmly and openly.
When I bear or moose hunt I always bring my video camera. It's draped around my neck. If any officer of the law stops me I turn it on. Just filming the ground but the audio is clear.
Trust me I'm not paranoid and know the law better then most. Problem I've had is officers who don't know the law or figure they're above the law. They walk among us! I also leave my pack and bow in the tree (encased) and come out with only my camera, bear spray, and a penlight. I have been stopped and asked to show ID, hunting licence etc. Obviously I'm not hunting because I'm weaponless. Just out for a walk or a ride.
About 10 yrs ago we had the MNR sweep into hunt camp asking everyone to produce licences. This is at a resort. I told them when I'm hunting I will show you my hunting licences. I'm sitting in a rented cottage watching TV on private property. They needed to realize this is Canada not Nazi Germany.
We had 2 blowhard CO's come in one time to check 2 hanging moose in camp. They were checking everything. Broad head hole, asked to see shooters. check broad head to wound hole config. the whole bullshyt. One blowhard said nice moose but he had bigger then us with a 55"er. I told him we're at 45 at that time and had a had quite a few bigger then his puppy. He didn't like the rain on his parade so started questioning me the exact location of the moose kill (I killed it) I said legally in the proper unit. He said he could make me show him the spot. I said get your boots and a sleeping bag and call your wife because it will take a while because now you're pizzing me off. I'm 110% legal, know I'm 110% legal and don't appreciate being treated like a criminal. They left and I've never seen them since.
So like I said state your intent firmly and be legal in your actions. Most CO's have been great guys but I'm met a couple that shoulda been working at Tims!

When I exited the woods on Saturday a CO was waiting for me in his unmarked truck. Very sneaky!
I know this CO well. We see him every year in 92B.
He asked to see my Turkey tag and printed hunting summary. That all checked out.
Then he asked for my PAL. I told him I don't need one because I'm hunting with a crossbow. lol
He told me to have a nice day & I did...

where does it say in the regs you have to case you gun at 7 pm? - it doesn't - they say you have to stop hunting at 7 pm.

Doesn’t & CO didn’t say I had to . I just said that so would be less chance of CO misinterpreting & me wasting time in court . Same as trigger lock .

Here's a scenario. One of the spots I hunt Turkey has quite a few coyotes. Twice I have shot coyotes running into my decoys. And multiple times has my Turkey hunt been ruined by coyotes coming into the field to see what whats going on with all the calling.
Now with 3 young kids and after school sports I have never had the opportunity to afternoon/evening hunt, but would I not allowed to hunt coyotes after Turkey has ended and 7? Watch to see if a coyote comes out into the field until 30 min after sunset?
And correct me if I'm wrong but from what I have resourced and posts i have read on this form I don't seen anything that says I cant bring my 22-250 with me Turkey hunting and hit a coyote if it comes into the field, is that not another situation that if the CO was to encounter you walking back to your truck with 2 guns, they would have to use a judgment call on there end and would they not have to have some kind of evidence to charge you with what he/she thinks you "might" be doing.
Are these CO as ruthless as everyone makes them out to be. I would like to think they are level headed and reasonable. I can't say I have very much experience with CO's and have never been in a situation where they had to question or grill me for anything so I'm not sure.
