You did that backwards. You should have had them doing the heavy work, well you supervised.

Had a hard enough time teaching them a decent "J" stroke last year. They get pretty frustrated when they can't keep up tandem paddling an empty canoe while I solo the 18 footer with me plus 800 lbs of gear/bait. They are actually moving faster than me in that scenario - just not in a straight line and end up paddling twice as far as I do to get to the same place. Reason I carry everything is they have a semi regular habit of capsizing.

Half the fun (if not all of it) of working with rookie paddlers is some of the antics they pull. It's more fun than watching cartoons.

That was to start baiting. Took your sage advice and have been starting things up a little later the last 2 years. None the less it was a successful outing and managed to get 3 canoe in baits set up last Saturday and moved 1200+ lbs of bait by canoe. Was pretty sore the next day after 13 hours of paddling and humping bait in and out of the canoe and through the bush. Heading in Friday night and if the baits are hit will be hunting Saturday, Sunday and Monday and camped on site about 2 to 3 km from the baits. I am taking my BIL and nephew along for the ride as they have never been off the pavement so to speak.

I don't do that for all my relatives! Some of my inlaws are SOBs. These guys are green but eager and good people. I have met some really great people from this forum and suspect you would fall into that category. Are you going to Boo's this summer? Perhaps we might cross paths and swap tall tales over a few wobbly pops.

Hey ... since boats are considered vehicles .... I hope you're 200 meters from the shoreline to be legal. All depends on how the CO interprets the wording. Ya never know? Some yuppie could be paddling close to shore, with a poodle on a leash, and gets attacked by a crazy bear that swims out and attacks that canoe.

The only reason the MNR never got this right was because they never consulted with any user group other then the tree huggers and anti's.
They do have an EBR and workshops but if you can't read and comprehend or are deaf. Nuff said!
Hey the results don't lie! How often is there corrections to poor decisions. Yes it's nice to see the corrections after the fact.

Actually Skeeter boats are considered vessels, not vehicles. Not to be nit picking but I know a guy who got off on an impaired boating charge because the cop wrote vehicle on the charge instead of vessel.
You are totally right about the ministry though. You really have to wonder where they get some of their ideas from.
