Tag transfer
Has anyone transferred a moose tag with the new system ? My sil tried, but it says “not eligible to transfer”. He got the tag but can’t go due to work commitments. The regs say a transfer can be done on line until the 20th...

I just got off the phone with our group leader. It appears one of our crew has been issued a Cow tag. We split our crew into two groups-one applying as a group and the others applying individually. The member that drew the tag applied as an individual and has been away since July,so,imagine his surprise. Wouldn't you just know it? As long as he's not deployed out of Ontario before the hunt,we're good to go,but, because he applied alone,if he can't go,the tag can't be transferred and we're SOL.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Our group of 9 apply in 3 groups of 3 and have been successful the last 2 years. This is the very reason for applying as a group, you always have the option to transfer the tag.

Looking forward to the reg change to heavily restrict tag transfers. It'll solve all the confusion about the existing rules as well as stop all the transfers where there was never any intention to hunt.
Maybe the reason the person cannot transfer is because the already transferred a tag last time one was issued to them? The rules are available on http://www.ontla.on.ca/library/repos...006/302255.pdf.

Did he try transferring to different people in the group? Maybe you can only transfer it to the person who has been in pool one the longest.

The tag can't be transferred because the hunter was not a member of the group. See item a from your link.
Eligibility Criteria
The Ministry shall transfer a hunter’s tag only if all of the following eligibility criteria are met: a) The hunter who wishes to have the MNR transfer their tag had applied to the moose validation tag draw as a member of a group. b) The hunter did not request a transfer of their tag to another hunter the last time they received a tag. A hunter who has previously transferred a tag must accept a tag in his/her name before he/she is permitted to perform another transfer as consecutive requests for tag transfers are not permitted. c) The hunter’s group has not already requested a transfer that year. The transfer of a tag cannot be reversed to return the tag back to the original recipient. d) The moose season for which the tag is valid has not yet opened.

I’m well aware of the regs....there is something in the system that won’t allow the transfer. He will call them Monday.

No, he tried to transfer the tag to the designated alternate.

He can still transfer after 20-th,but he(and maybe the alternate-not sure)also needs to go in to the closest Service Ontario.
Be careful-there is a FINAL deadline though for all transfers.
