I think it is a pretty good price for a true sine wave inverter with the other nice design features. You cannot really compare the typical Canadian Tire modified sine wave inverters to this one. I bought a commercial true sine wave inverter for my solar power system at the camp and it was a about 3x over the cheap ones but you have to pay for clean power.

I cannot think of any equipment in my house where I need a sine inverter. I have run my who house off my coleman 5500. Plasma tv, Android box, 2 computers, network, sump freezer, laptop, fridge, freezer and lights throughout the house. I could run the furnace if I had to but since I have 30 face cords out back I don't need to. I paid 250 for the generator I finally bout a generator panel and made a 240 V extension cord and I'm all in for a grand total of 500 bucks (I had a friend who's an electrical guy do the work for free).

Rather idiotic comment from that link....a $5k whole house generator setup will be supplying 22KW ..something that will run everything in your house, using propane !! You won't know the Hydro is off; cook, laundry, hot showers etc. That $700 1 kw 'inverter' can barely run anything..no hot water AND a warm house at the same time for sure...

In a rural situation, no power equals no water....it takes 240v to run a well pump...

WHY IS THIS BETTER THAN A WHOLE HOUSE GENERATOR?

It costs far less. If you have a power outage just occasionally every year or two then why spend a ton of money on a big generator taking up yard space? If you are ok with running just the essentials of your house like your gas furnace, fridge, a few lights and computers, then buy a CarGenerator. Save 90% of your money and pay just a fraction of what you would otherwise on a whole house generator installed typically between $5k-$10k.

Where do you need a true sine wave? This is a backup system with 1 circuit, what are you actually running off this? Have you used a modified sine wave inverter? They work just fine for 90% of things, even no issues charging cell phones and laptops although it takes a little longer. They run lights fine, power tools fine, etc.

well the point is it is different than one you could get at Canadian tire.

do the ones you get at Canadian tire work in snow and wet conditions? im not familiar.

I'm still baffled as to what equipment would even need a sine inverter, maybe if you have some sort of sensitive medical or scientific equipment, but nothing in your home requires that.

Both types of inverter will provide power to AC appliances, however Pure Sine is high quality equal to (or better than) the power in your home, Modified sine wave power is a simpler form of power and is adequate for simple electronics, but may damage more complex ones.
