    Default Small ugly coyote down

Not being able to get out as much as I have wanting (life getting in the way) I did get a chance to get out after work today..... I got to the farm and got setup for the first set around 4:30.....Plan was to make 2 sets on this farm.... Tried it at one end of the farm for 15 minutes without any luck so decided to head to the other end of the farm (roughly 500yds away) and try it there....
I setup and got comfortable, within the first 5 minutes I had this coyote come out of the bush and make his way up toward my call/decoy. He came in only stopping once to look things over....After a few seconds he continued on his steady trot until he spotted the decoy.....................then picked up the pace fast...........As he got to about the 60 yd mark I let out a really loud "Wolf" sound, getting him to stop and stare at me. With crosshairs on him I sent the 55 gr vmax into his chest dropping him where he stood....
I sat in my location for another 5 minutes before heading over to get him. Turned out to be another ugly (start of mange) coyote......
    The setup/my view

    How it played out

Not the greatest pic, somehow I managed to chop my head off from this one....

Well done! I've wondered if it's worthwhile to do a second set in some places. Looks like it can't hurt to try. I have a few spots where I could probably get a few hundred yards away from the first set.

    Nicely done!

I must say, it was a shock to see grass in your pictures, brown or not. I miss seeing grass. Up to my danglers in snow here...

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

Good shooting !! I shot one last week that only had fur along its back, and a bit on its lower legs. Not a hair on its tail or face.. Ugliest one ever.

Good shooting. Obviously they don't always circle downwind. Seems like you shoot your fair share on a cross wind as well.

Ya, I find most coyotes come in from the path of least resistance just like deer unless they think something is up (called before?).....

Ya, we have had a very mild winter so far, should be good for the deer population....

If the wind is in your favour, it is well worth it. I have had luck by going just a few hundred yards away.... Maybe it was/is just dumb luck, but if time permits I usually give it a try, not much to loose....
