Does not mean it does not kick like a mule.

I work with a girl who came out shooting with us, she wanted to feel some recoil. I set her up on the bench with a 1915 M95 Steyr straight pull bolt carbine. That thing fires the 8x56R round, 205gr bullet at 2500fps, the rifle has no recoil pad and weighs around 7lbs, she kicks like a mule, this girl took it in stride. I also know very large men who flinch at a 12ga target load, ha ha ha.

Funny enough, it is believed that the reason the 280 was never won the popularity contest given its advantage over the 270 was due to the constant name changes. The 280 was called the 7mm rem express as well as 7mm06 which I'm sure caused a lot of confusion.

Now the 7mm08, that will be my next purchase, might even put the 94-22M up to offset the cost.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

The 270 recoil is pretty much on par with the mild recoil of 308, which most anyone can comfortably shoot

Cartridge (Wb@MV) Rifle Weight Recoil energy Recoil velocity
    .260 Rem. (140 at 2750) 8.25 11.9 9.7
    .308 Win. (150 at 2800) 7.5 15.8 11.7
    .270 Win. (150 at 2900) 8.0 17.0 11.7
    .30-06 Spfd. (150 at 2910) 8.0 17.6 11.9

The 6.5CM will be close to the 260, the numbers right here show that the 270 is on par with the 30-06.

The recoil velocity is up just a little but all in, you are correct. Given the performance of a 270 the recoil is pretty light.

Take the recoil energy of my 257 Wby mag, it's less than that of the 270 launching heavier bullets but I can guarantee you will not say it's a lighter recoiling gun. The thing weighs 10lbs and it still makes you think about how many rounds you wish to toss down range at paper. The recoil velocity being 50% more than the 270 is what makes the difference.

    244 Rem vs 6mm Rem
280 Rem vs 7mm Rem Express

They have done that a couple times eh.

I like the 7mm-08, have it in my head for my wife's next rifle as they make a number of short LOP rifles in that caliber and the recoil is not that much more than the 30-30 she is comfortable with now, and this would have a recoil pad while her current one does not.

Fox take a look at 308 165g, they are on par with 270.
Oaknut, yes the weight of a rifle will definitely differ the amount of felt recoil

The 270 kicks with enough authority to not be considered a light recoiling rifle, end of story. That does not mean you cannot like the rifle, that does not mean that the rifle's recoil is not something that you can manage but face it, the 270 has a significant enough recoil for some to avoid it due to that fact.

In regards to recoil...I know when shooting .303 Brit there is a huge difference between the 180 gr and the 150 gr if you'r out shooting for an afternoon.

Has anyone enough experience with the various bullets available in . 270 to note the recoil differences...: ie: between say the 90gr vs 140 gr or the 130 gr vs 150 gr etc.. ?

I would think that 90gr .270 on a bipod would make a great varmint set-up.

Or is it a case once you're pushing a bullet past 3,200 ft/sec...they all hurt HaHa...

I have not noticed a whole lot of difference with my 270, but I don't shoot anything lighter then 130g.
My 300wm was tame with 150g but there was more felt recoil with 180g loads. Did not matter what load I put through my 338wm, it had a decent amount of recoil.
