So locating a giraffe in blistering heat on foot would not be a challenge? Prolly more of a challenge than looking over a swamp and calling in a moose in 10c temps. Shooting a calf wouldn't add to the ranks of anti-hunters? Or how about shooting a fawn whitetail that's the size of a dog and less than a year old?

Not always blistering heat. During our summer (their winter) temperatures are quite moderate in southern Africa not unlike summer weather here except much drier. Usually the hunters are taken out in a bakkie (4-wheeler) and driven around. Giraffes aren't hard to see and not particularly wary. The goof who thinks he's a Mighty White Hunter shoots from a couple of hundred yards at most and then is hauled back to the lodge for cocktails.



It's a business just like the spring bear hunt is here. The animals aren't game but a commodity to improve the local economy and it's easy money. If you want to make a PH earn his keep hunt kudu, buffalo, oryx, eland or some other animal that requires a little effort.

It would seem that you are mis-informed, or simply making false statements to cause trouble.

Try reading my post #8 and you will see what I agree were good suggestions.The MNR along with the anti bear hunters agreed back at that time that bear cubs were orphaned.The Conservative government of the day went along with this.

You have ever been on a spring bear hunt or Giraffe hunt and as such can speak from experience.
Do you realize that shooting a giraffe not only provides thousands of dollars to local villagers that desperately need the money, and that they also get the meat as well which they always apprecaite very much.
Did you have ever done anything to contribute to global Conservation efforts or to assist financially with supporting a remote African village

I'm a very opinionated person as well but not sure why you feel the need to insult people who do something different than you would. If the guy has the money and is following the laws, he isn't a "goof" for shooting a giraffe. He just chooses to do something different than you want to. And that's OK. As you said it will improve the local economy so what is the problem?

I bet if we wanted to be narrow minded we could point out all that is wrong with what you hunt if you cared to share. But assuming you are following the laws and have your reasons to do so, then all the power to you.

Pasquale I have not been on a Giraffe hunt but even then I know I do not want to hunt one.The poster has spoken to experienced hunters and has set out how some of the hunts are conducted. I have never been on Spring bear hunt but have a good idea of how to proceed if I chose to do so,reading posts on here has been very helpful,speaking to fellow hunters.I would not conclude he has not been to a hunt,just ask him.

It's pretty clear you've not set foot in the places I've been and I suspect the closest you've been to Africa is reading Hemingway. Villagers don't need Mighty White Bwana to get meat. They do like the money because it helps them pay their iPhone bills. Giraffe meat not so much.

What I was doing in Africa was helping advance resource projects contributing to the African economy so that people there didn't have to rely on douchebags from North America who think it's cool to shoot giraffes.

I haven't been on a spring bear hunt or hunted giraffe. There isn't much sport in popping a bear with its head stuffed into a barrel of donuts or driving up to a giraffe and shooting it as it stares at you.

We don’t always have to agree with one another but it’s important that we learn to respect each other
