    Default Swans

The last two days, we have seen countless flock after flock flying over our place, we found them on the next concession overfeeding in a partially flooded corn stubble field, there were well over one thousand swans there , mainly Tundra's but you could see a few smaller gatherings of the larger Trumpeter Swans . Absolutely an amazing sight, called our neighbor and he went out and got some pictures of these magnificent birds to add to his collection.
One thing that we noticed is that the larger Trumpeter Swans fly much lower than do the Tundra Swans.

    Hello Jaycee,

I have also noticed that the larger Trumpeter Swans fly lower than the smaller Tundra Swans ... saw two (2) pairs of Trumpeter Swans at Long Point on the day that we were conducting the international Trumpeter Swan census ... they were logged in for the official count.

This would make them easier targets for those [ waterfowlers ]??? that can't tell the difference between the two species.

    Hello Jaycee,

I have always said that a limited (tag only) Tundra Swan season would not be for everyone ... if you cannot identify your target you do not shoot.

According to the CWS "Tundra Swan Season Assessment" that was completed in August of 2013 the incidental Trumpeter Swan harvest by American hunters during their western Tundra Swan season is about 1.0%.

I know your concerns regarding this issue and I have made a few suggestions in the past to address concerns regarding an incidental harvest.

GW back to his old tricks. Do as I say not as I do. I know there will be some sort of BS reply to this, but I will just ignore it because of who it is coming from.
