Same as it would be if they attempted to ban a virus, the problem would still persist.

Well I give Canadians a little more respect, I think they know exactly what an assault rifle is,they hear and read about it in daily media and have all heard about mass shootings.I suppose next election you can talk to friends and relatives and say your supporting the party that brings back assault rifles, but that really does not sound very appealing to most folks.

And somehow magically Gilroy. You missed only 50% of the public trust the RCMP. Down substantially from a year ago....

    And

“ Looking more broadly at the question of Canada’s gun laws, half of Canadians (49%) are of the opinion that these regulations need to be stricter. One-third of Canadians (34%) feel that the gun laws in place are striking a good balance, while 13 per cent feel they are too strict. Interestingly, those who identify as knowing the ins and outs of the laws are divided between whether the laws are about right (39%), too strict (36%) or not strict”

    People are waking up Gilroy.
    And wedge issues...

Frankly, and I am being honest. The fact only half of respondents trust The RCMP (Leo) is not only appalling, it’s scary.

The public trust is the be all and end all.

But when you have Chiefs like Blair, the G20, this, High River, utter idiocy using twitter during the attack, and many more things.....

the past days are going to have a big impact, especially when the public realizes (see the NP article Mikepal posted) they are seeing it now, just how flawed the Legislation is, and why it should have never been pushed..(the OIC) .and the smack to democracy that is..

I have feminist as friends and when I pointed out. This could just easily occur somewhere down road over abortion..it’s a wedge issue 50/50

which way do you think winds are shifting...

Whose job is it to explain these facts to Canadians? The answer is that it is our job and we've failed.

Our opponents defined what an assault rifle is and why they should be banned. Instead of intelligent dialogue, accepting that people might disagree, respecting different opinions and presenting ourselves as contributing members of Canadian society too many gun owners have acted and continue to act like angry, bellicose yahoos.

Over 90 percent of Canadians don't own guns. Until they can be convinced it's acceptable for their fellow citizens to own firearms then it will be one ban after another.

    Funny. (Not)

When wanting to buy “assault rifles”. Police know they need to win the PR battle. They have strategies of DOs and DONTs.

It’s also being used against us. All the DONTs, none of the DOs.

And yep, tend to agree Badenoch. I’m not against our lobby groups, credit due where due, Burlew and others aregoing to make them silly over this. think the OFAH is the best. It’s more about “dialogue”

We don’t make friends if we don’t listen. And win the PR battle

Finally Badenoch, a respectful post. Thanks! I agree that it is our job but disagree that we've failed. Failing, definitely, but the last thing you can do is just give up. Maybe you're ready to and maybe you have reason to, but I'll continue to do my part to educate new shooters and fence sitters. As sour as you sound, hopefully you do too.

I agree that the bad apples and the extremists are what the public remembers, but that's not a phenomenon limited to gun owners.

    Keep educating.

Good thing rcmp are bad shots

Hiding something and government take are guns away

Sources have told CTV News the two RCMP officers who opened fire outside the hall Sunday morning thought they were shooting at the suspect, but stopped when they learned it was a fellow RCMP officer.

    Gilroy,
I think the majority of Canadians have been duped by Justin and Billy. Our government use the term "military style assault rifles" all the time and what does that mean........really?? An assault rifle is defined as "selective-fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine". So as the informed and educated can agree that my AR is not an assault rifle - it is a black semi automatic 5-shot rifle. These two clowns are banking on the fear of the general population that there are assault rifles in circulation and they are going to make Canada safer by taking them away. What is next on their agenda - coming after my high power sniper rifle (my black Rem 700 target rifle)?

But Trudeau is smarter than we give him credit for. He is allowing a tainted has-been be the spokesperson for his bungled gun grab. If Justin ever wanted a guy that suck and blow at the same time Billy is his man, and if it ever goes south watch how fast he is discarded - but that is a common occurrence for Billy now isn't it - just when everyone forgot about the G20 fiasco.

I took a picture of an SKS all dressed up military looking and a wood stock SKS. I asked numerous people which one was more powerful they all said the one that looked military yet they were both the same gun. Did the dressed up SKS become super powerful because of the stock?
