Being judged by appearances alone IS what it is about. Guns or people , it is wrong. You are carded while hunting to prove you have the paperwork to engage in that activity. Carding people for walking down the street, is not the same thing. I was 'carded' last weekend by the OPP while in my boat, I had to prove I had the boaters card, that enables me to participate in that activity, appropriate , yes. If I am questioned and 'carded',because I am walking down the street, appropriate, no.

MNR checks hunt camps, writes down everyone’s particulars, guns carried, lic. Plates......etc, etc, I don’t hear any whining about that......same thing ! Police chiefs across the province warned of increased criminal activity, weapons use......when so called “carding” was banned... I guess they were right!!!
But ‘nuff said “off topic”....

What's been called "carding" to day was call community policing in those days.
Police stopped and talked to people all the time. Kids got "Harassed" as you call it, all the time. Over the course of time the cop car stopping and officers talking to preteen or teen age boys walking with dead rabbits and slingshots has gone from the friendly reminder to behave to being call a violation of civil rights.

I worked for an Inspector, once, who had an uncanny ability to succinctly put this issue into perspective we all could relate to if (when) in this situation. He asked us "If you would not treat a white person that way,why would you treat a black (brown, red) person like that?" That was the last remark made in that lecture. There was 35 of us in the class and I could see 35 light bulbs go on all at the same time.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....
