Cool Snowwlaker-the OP asked for coffee grind solution........hence the cup size filter idea/offer.To pour coffee thru it,and get rid of grinds.

I have some fine meshed tea infuser styled filters. Thanks for the offer.
I tried cutting a coffee filter and placing it in the basket where the grounds go but still ended up with a bit of grounds at the end. Not many which was nice. Controlling the boil will be the ticket I think. Just need to get it to a slow simmer.

you can fill the cup with coffee grounds and then add hot water. In fact I believe there are filter you can buy that go in the cup to hold the grounds...

That's how we made coffee on fires. Boil a 5 gal pot of water then pour a pound of coffee grounds to it. Boil til its blackish then dip it out, pine needles, wood ash and whatever else ended up in there. Not quite like Tim's but back in the day it tasted pretty darn good when you were beat down and dragging your butt around camp.

I put a paper towel in the basket, load the grounds, and fold the paper towel over. Put the metal filter atop that as per usual. Keeps the vast majority of the grounds out.

I'm actually surprised by the number of guys here who still perk coffee. It's almost a dying art.

Has too much time on their hands
Yup like others have said, dont let it get to rolling boil, just simmer. Next, I let sit for 5 minutes after I take off fire/stove, it helps to settle the grounds. Lastly, since I tend to make 20 cup pot at a time, I make that pot the night before and just reheat in the morning, saves time for those early morning duck/deer hunts.

We have 3 on the go every morning at camp. The main trick is to just let it roll slowly. Obviously with full rolling boil, the basket gets over filled with water and spills over.
This isn't a test run................Enjoy er'.......
