Move to country - No Coyotes

Their usually quiet summer time wait till winter. Let out 100 pound dog at 10:00 o’clock pm to do his thing and watch him beg to get back in the house. He knows he’s out numbered. And is willing to hold it till morning.

Had a buddy with an intact male, the local wolves sent out their female in heat to lure him away from the house. My buddy was shooting over the top of his own dogs head to scare him back to the house. My neighbour had his dog attacked by a number of coyotes, he got away and did not become lunch but not without being cut up a bit. The interesting part with my neighbour, his dog had blood all over him but no deep cut, so he messed up at least one of the coyotes.

Coyotes are smart and will work as a group
I seen a group of 8 run a deer out on the ice in winter till deer had to go into open water. Coyotes waited till the drowned deer floated back to ice and then pulled it up team work. That was long cold wait

I know a sheep farmer that says his Great Pyenese is completely wore out come morning. He couldn't figure out why, Til he seen the tooth marks on its muzzle. He figures that dog is fighting/fending off coyotes almost every night. I know the dog well, He's about 120lbs and 7 years old, he's fear less, I'd like to have a gopro on his head to see how he makes out at night.

I'm going there Saturday morning with the rifle to see if i can help him out.

OK..as a hunter of coyotes, I understand them well..as a rural property (RU)..it appears I am learning..lol Dont have animals yet, but dogs, and very wary when letting them out AM/PM (goats and chickens), but next spring I will.

Yup, I agree..just havent seen or heard them yet. They are all at Fox's property the next concession over the woods..lol

They are in the bush between our houses. Sleep with the window open and I bet you will hear them. Talked to the guy who bought the land behind me, the one we hunted a few years back, he is camping there this weekend in an RV and bringing the rifle to try to knock off a couple yotes.

Lots of yotes around...have no fear, they'll eventually get you up at 2:00 am

Once you have livestock...shooting them after dark is not 'hunting' ...

Don't even need livestock to justify it, a pet cat or dog will suffice. My 3 dogs run coyotes off our property regularly - 2 Walkers and a Pitbull cross. They have enough sense to stay together and work as a team. Only ever had minor scratches/bites and never needed any medical attention. I have only had to intervene once when they got into it with a large group in the dark a few winters back. I can tell from the pitch/sound of the Walker's baying if they need help or once in while they will corner one and hold him and change pitch to tell me "come with the gun cause we got something for you."

They are right in the city here. They hang out along the RR tracks and along the river. We often see tracks in the fresh snow, up around the houses. I had one run across the street in front of me in the dark, when I was leaving to go yote hunting ..
