should of been a 8 woodcock 1 grouse day......
... but I couldn't keep my end up. The first 6 came easy enough. One for one. Should of quit than but the day was too nice. Number 7 took several reflushes before I could connect. Number 8 was especially challenging for Nova but when it finnally lifted was sure I had clipped it. Took a while to scour where I marked the bird but couldn't locate it. Nova tried to convince me I didn't connect but wasn't so sure so called it a limit. Stella took one last stroll and located a grouse. heard her do a little cat and mouse so worked my way toward her. Caught a glimspe of the gouse sneaking ahead of her. Looped ahead of them to play blocker. Bird came up infront of me decent going away in the clear. Don't know why it didn't drop as I watched it sail away into the bush. Oh next time.
Bush was really wet birds mostly individuals save for one spot that held several on a mound. No sign of a big flight yet looks like its just starting.

Things are really picking up for you I see.
The colder weather (although wet) is a blessing. I flushed 2 grouse last evening closer to home but carrying a bow rather than a shotgun. I'll be back in the uplands with the right tool by Friday for sure.

Has too much time on their hands

Forgot to mention. Birds were runners today. Most points took several relocations before was able to pin them down. If your dog is having unproductive points suspect runners.

If the dog's looking like the bird's not right there, maybe try making a wider circle out front and back to the dog based on the wind direction.

What works for me when I get to the dog if I can't readily see the bird release the dog a which if the bird still there they''ll lock back down or track the bird to the new location.

That works depending on the wind direction and which way the bird went. I like to cover a wider circumference first rather than have the dog bump the bird on the relocate.
