Totally agree, gun bans will not stop the problem. We have to give people a reason not pick up a gun, as a way to better their life, besides jail. The real problem is that for some, it is the only way to get 'stuff', that others have. Many people are poor through no fault of their own, (I understand in many cases it is their fault, but it does not change the dynamics for them), but they see the life others have on TV. Ads for vacations away,( some never had a vacation), new cars, ( never had one , take the crowed bus every day), new phones every couple of years, ( can't afford a 10 year old one). If you have , no education, no prospects , no resources, and no hope, what do you think will happen? Sorry but like training any animal, ( we are), to do something you want, you get more compliance with reward , than punishment.

Has too much time on their hands
Hmmm - lets see - I fit all those criteria and built a business from me to 56 employees (750K annual sales) and ran it for 15yrs before I sold it. You now how, hard work, long hours, lots of sacrifice, I call bullshyt on this one. If you are driven, then no end to your success- EFFORT always equals OUTCOME...people today expect/demand/feel self entitled to OUTCOME without putting in EFFORT. So far there is little done to stop them from picking up the gun. They get caught and then go home the day after or later that day with no gun lol. Then what happens in court who knows where it will go. I'm sure many of them are dropped for one reason or another maybe some probation?. What good is that ?
They get back home and worry about getting a replacement [emoji1783].
There is alot more that could be done.
As for Africa it's not up to you fix [emoji6] there are ways you can help if you want to . [emoji106]
All you can do is help with what you can.

We will never run out of criminals on the street to replace those in jail. We have to change the way we choose to deal with those that are waiting to follow in their footsteps. Break the cycle. Incarceration is not working in the States. I don’t want to have to wear a weapon to feel safe, lets take a different path. Nip it in the bud. I refuse to believe, because I am a positive person , and I like to think the best of people, that it cannot all be attributed to ‘laziness’. Sometimes if you refuse to submit to ‘social norms ‘ it makes it hard to get to work by 9. The Dude Abides

Mandatory minimum for illegal gun possession for criminal purposes would be a start. Give slap on the wrist penalties and watch crime grow. Its not hard to figure it out. Oh wait some people want to feel sorry for criminals, its not their fault they choose to commit crimes...lol
Does this make sense

X2
My dad was a steelworker and my mom worked retail. I managed a university education (with student debt and a lot of hard work - summer jobs and part time jobs), then after graduating I completed an electrical apprenticeship and after 11 years as a journeyman I managed to get a good, well paying career and do you know who I owe that to? I owe this to all the good people that made me work for it. Nothing was given to me and nothing was taken.
The issue is people want stuff - phones, cars, TV's and most of all respect BUT they do not want to work for it. They want the easy life........the short cut! There are no shortcuts in life, and as god is my witness there is nothing in life that is free. Everything in life has a cost associated to it. It may cost you money, time, sweat or in come cases your integrity, or your conscious, or even your life but everyone needs to make that decision for themselves.
Like training animals.......you do it often enough they will get complacent with handouts. What is the old saying " give a man a fish he will eat for a day teach a man to fish........."

Or put them on work programs maybe they find something that fits their life a bit better or enjoy doing. While doing good to the community .
But then again our government would never push a thing like that.
Maybe more time ? Like the old saying you do the crime you pay the price or take the consequences. It's supposed to be punishment. Not sit and do nothing make money off gambling or talk crime . What do they learn when they get out .
To be a better criminal that's all.
Go in for weekend's more drugs than you can fit in a brief case that's punishment? sitting around getting high all weekend.
