Hunters say firearms ban didn't affect hunting season

So you find it acceptable to tell hunters they can't use firearms they have for years? I hope people are still shooting when they come around for your firearms.
Every time there is a ban it is going to stop firearm crime, and every time it doesn't. The last big one was the long gun registry, over two billion spent, never fully implemented, and didn't stop one shooting. I am sure glad you don't need to register hunting rifles in Canada, maybe you thought that was a good idea as well. Have you actually seen the growing list of banned firearms, maybe you might find something you own on it.

You have no idea if the registry saved lives or did not, I believe it probably did. It also made gun owners responsible for their guns and assisted the police in returning guns stolen. When a minority of the vocal gun owners on here started fighting against the registry I suggested it was a reasonable compromise, giving the public a bone to make them feel a little safer.
Nope they were not gong to have it and Harper used this divisive little wedge to get into power.
I also WARNED on this very forum that if the registry went and the Liberal's were running for re election, they would DOUBLE DOWN and something worse would come in. Guess what they ran on banning assault type rifles and took the opportunity to give us that something worse. So well done guys.

If you folks think that Mr. O'Toole is going to ride in here on a white charger to get these guns back into your hands, I think you are sadly mistaken and once again being taken for a ride by the Conservative party.

Do you hunt with .460WBY, .500 Jeffrey, 600 or 700 Nitro in Ontario? Do you know anyone who does? I don't and very much doubt many people have used them to hunt in Ontario.

The point of the article was that the ban has not had a significant impact on hunting or hunters. It does not address "action shooting," the effectiveness of bans, the gun registry or other broader items.

To address your speculations there is nothing I currently own on the ban list although have I owned some of them in the past. I opposed the gun registry as expensive and unnecessary but not because I live in a state of perpetual panic the government is going to "come around" for my firearms. I am strong supporter of firearms licensing.

They didn't just ban these calibers' but several models of firearms that several hunters used in Ontario. Have you heard of a Beretta Cx4 Storm carbine, Ruger Mini-14, AR-10 etc. these were popular and now can't be used and again they lose there property.
As a firearm owner you need to stand with other owners weather you own or shoot there sport. If you don't who will be there when they come for your firearms. What makes you think they will stop now.

They can still take trips to Africa they just can't own those guns in Canada. Having spent time in Africa the above listed calibers are not in common use. The large bore calibers that are used there most often are .375 H&H, .416 Rigby, .458 Winchester and .470 Nitro Express all of which are still legal in Canada.

I have not and likely will not hunt Africa. I do aspire to own a collection of Weatherby Deluxe. Guess I can cross one off the list.

I am however no longer able to use a gun for coyotes. It did have better than minute of pie plate accuracy as well.

Does the banning of your rifle mean you will never hunt coyotes again? If not then it hasn't affected your hunting season which is the point of the article.
