How about the ozone layer did you believe there was a hole in it or was that another global conspiracy.

You understand that Canadians are living in an artificial world where fossil fuels are needed to survive, so I get that and also understand we are the biggest user's on the planet.

But does that not mean we should give up trying for a better way.

You guys are so upset about taxes and your grandchildren having to pay for them in the future, well there might not be a future for them period if we do not curb our use of fossil fuels.

Your argument with others is that China and other developing countries will still use fossil fuels so what is the difference.

Well maybe we should cut back on what we consume that feed's their market, the throw away society we have created cannot last.

    Now a National Bestseller!

Climate change is real but it’s not the end of the world. It is not even our most serious environmental problem.

Michael Shellenberger has been fighting for a greener planet for decades. He helped save the world’s last unprotected redwoods. He co-created the predecessor to today’s Green New Deal. And he led a successful effort by climate scientists and activists to keep nuclear plants operating, preventing a spike of emissions.

But in 2019, as some claimed “billions of people are going to die,” contributing to rising anxiety, including among adolescents, Shellenberger decided that, as a lifelong environmental activist, leading energy expert, and father of a teenage daughter, he needed to speak out to separate science from fiction.

Despite decades of news media attention, many remain ignorant of basic facts. Carbon emissions peaked and have been declining in most developed nations for over a decade. Deaths from extreme weather, even in poor nations, declined 80 percent over the last four decades. And the risk of Earth warming to very high temperatures is increasingly unlikely thanks to slowing population growth and abundant natural gas.

Curiously, the people who are the most alarmist about the problems also tend to oppose the obvious solutions.

What’s really behind the rise of apocalyptic environmentalism? There are powerful financial interests. There are desires for status and power. But most of all there is a desire among supposedly secular people for transcendence. This spiritual impulse can be natural and healthy. But in preaching fear without love, and guilt without redemption, the new religion is failing to satisfy our deepest psychological and existential needs.

Only a person that's desperately living in denial or fantasy land, doesn't understand that in Federal elections Ontario is the "swing vote".

Only a person that's desperately living in denial or fantasy land. Doesn't remember provincial elections say after 2007.When things were becoming oh so obvious, like brain cramps and scandals, like job losses, hydro in rural Ontario. Vote buying of the GTA ( Can we not figure out why?) and Unions, etc, etc.

Only a person living in the GTA struggles to understand why so many Canadians litterly hate the "center of the Universe"....

Gord I'm guessing you missed the part where I said "when it's their side"...translation in plain English. Both sides are guilty????

I don't think Ford has onything on Mcguinty/Wynne/Trudeau though as yet...Do you?
And yes I am critical of him when its warranted...

    Gilroy,

Most of what you have just stated had absolutely nothing to do with the quoted verbiage. It seems more like conversing with Billy and his talking points.

You are right, and as I previously stated, we should be cutting China out of our consumables and kicking them out of our mines. Question, what do you think would happen to trusty justy when he tells his main voter base, no new TV, phones, cheap Walmart crap?

This is why we need a phased in approach, we need to build our capabilities to make our own things, in house again. We need our own gas and oil to do so. We as a country can make it on our own, we have the resources and at least we could find the least polluting way of utilizing those resources and make something for ourselves. Instead, as a country we will shut our own people down and turn a blind eye to the crap other countries are doing and continue to support them financially. Out of sight out of mind, right?

Australia is no different, they pollute and burn coal like its going out of style.

As to living under a rock, I can own it if you can answer me a question of what is in your house, what do you use that does not rely on oil and gas!

As I said, we can do better, we should do better but taxation is not going to fix it.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

Problem is you don't post your opinions on anything, you contribute little to the content of any thread on any topic (95% of the time) . The only reason you post is to deliberately to be provocative and cause disruption and argument..that on social media is called Trolling.

Drop the idiotic provacative political based comments that identify you as a Troll and maybe we'll stop calling you a Troll.

Try contributing more constructive posts and maybe people will have a little more respect for your opinions and welcome the debate .

Lol just read your living in denial comment Gord.
So your saying the West doesn't hate Ontario? and specifically the GTA?
So your saying Northern Ontario ( which usually votes NDP) doesnt hate the GTA and hasn't talked about separation?
So your saying Rurual Ontario too doesn't now hate the GTA?

lmao, Im guessing you dont read these forums much, let alone anything that's not printed or aired from outside the GTA

    And why?
Well because, once again they are sticking their heads in the sand, just as they did 2006-2016. Maybe their heads are in the sand, because we can hope they are trying to find their morals.

You are a real martyr, it sure is tough to say someone has backbone when they won't stand up for their beliefs. Discussions are healthy even if heated at times. There are things I will agree with you on at times and when it happens I'd be the first to say it.

If you read my post you would see that I agree that we , I am part of the problem but we should be able to find a better way.

So for the most part I like your last post and agree with you.

I think our problem in Canada is that citizens here have simply been brought up with to much.

Now I know that might piss off some people but its simply a fact. We have to much, we want to much.

Now I am not suggesting this as a solution just something for my fellow Canadians to ponder.

When I was a kid growing up back in Scotland we all had hydro meters inside our home's. The meter was on a clock ,you put your money into the receiver, turned the handle and your hydro came on in the home .After your time ran out your hydro went out.

Did we use energy SURE did we waste energy NO, because it was simply to expensive.
