As I said G, who so often talks the talk, but is unwilling to walk it.
Who expects the peasants to sacrifice for his wife's well being, but is unwilling to throw them a bone or life ring if you will.
Who wants to tax the rich, and companies but doesnt see.........
Who forever used to go on about your cottage taxes, and the peasants needing them....Or the GTAs contribution to tax revenue, but hopefully now see's its not that simple....

Who hates Trump and Ford but cant grasp what's really underlying the rise of populism, and why its becoming so popular. I think it was MarkB, who said to you
Nor see the stark, in your face parallel with electoral maps.......

    Let them eat cake?

Caste system, British Classes and aristocrats ( funny you mentioned tea parties), and much more I might mention.

    Better question for you.
    Define the middle class.....

The wife and I never made the sunshine list, and I would not consider myself 'rich'. Except non- monetarily of course. I guess rich to some, is anyone who is not a 'peon'. Even though I was one of 'those' ,at the start of my working life.

Very interesting conversation with JBEN and others and here is what I have learned in conclusion.

The Conservative types are all about NOT PAYING TAXES, yes Tax Avoidance Schemes, working under the table.

They appear to approve of their masters doing the same big Corporations not paying their fair share, offshore bank accounts and tax havens and worse they want Corporate Welfare as well.

The poor people on welfare they are considered bum,s and should be made to work.

They are pro gun unless you are aboriginal and then some want them disarmed.

So I am in the exact same position as you just a peon paying through the nose for two places, I guess I am subsidizing some rich guy who refuses to pay his health care costs and I get to carry him on my back. I have never made the sunshine list in fact never even close.

My wife just got her first pension cheque of $220.00 a month, shall I buy that BMW or Mercedes...LOL

A lot of that is true Gilroy.

But as it pertains to the here and now. ......To the mountains of debt, to the widening wealth gap, to sooooooooo so many things....

    Mark.
With respect to people being able to change to their lot in life. Maybe, 40-50 years ago. Stagnant wages, taxation......

A child is two-and-a-half times as likely to have a managerial job, if their grandparents were of a higher class"

    Here's a hint.
If you own two properties ( one of which is likely close to being worth a cool million) , have an indexed to inflation pension. You think your MC?
    lol!!

This has taken an unexpected turn. But is actually probably "good", considering the topic ( Taxes). The Demographics it's going to hammer, and also regional differences ( Urban/rural).

    Who are the middle class?
Well if we go back to Walt Wittman ( go ahead, google him) they are the blue collar, factory workers. And the "middle class" is as much about how they live their lives and romantic ideals vs the elite white collar workers, than it is income levels. Might also think about "property ownership"

/points to the cities and the Jonses.
    /points to populism and more.

    Do we measure "income"?
    Net worth?
    Or disposable income?

    let them eat cake Gord?

What should matter most these days to anyone concerned about the plight of the Canadian middle class isn’t necessarily median income — or even income growth — but what’s happening to the piece of the pie left over after all the bills are paid. It’s here in the margins of “discretionary income” where today’s middle class dream lives or dies.

And sorry guys, you are nowhere near "MC".

If you own a house in the city and a cottage, it doesn't matter how you got it, in this day and age you are in the "have" column.

When Trudeau starts talking about a great reset the "have's" should take notice and be concerned.

You just have no freaking clue Gilroy. But given you spent your life in the GTA, one can forgive you.

the median after-tax income of Canadian families and unattached individuals was $61,400 in 2018, virtually unchanged from 2017.
