Canada's immigration minister defends outsourcing visa office to company run by Beijing police
https://nationalpost.com/news/politi...beijing-police
Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said he is confident a contract with a company owned by the Beijing police adequately protects personal information of people applying to Canada for visas.
Get the idea that China is running things?

Conservatives once again had been running the show I am sure they did their due diligence.
"Public Safety Minister Bill Blair says he assumes security authorities signed off on an arrangement to allow a company owned by a Chinese police force to run Canada's visa application centre in Beijing.
Blair says he can only make assumptions because the arrangement was put in place in 2008, under the previous Conservative government."

I am sure they did at the time....since the comments are coming from Blair and on CBC that would usually put it in fake news but this issue isn't new, it is ongoing from I believe 3 or 4 years in the past*. I'm sure in 2008 unlike Justlied Trudeau and Bill "no Facts" Blair at the time there was concern and the choice looked good or the options were small or likely just the one. In China a huge number of companies are run by the government, ones like Huawai for example, that one banned in most other countries due to that, but not Canada. The only Canadian company that is banned is SNC by the IMF and World Bank etc. over it's corruption.
So a quick look shows it is on record that the company:
1) based on this having come up in the past* it seems they didn't know the association in 2008
2) They are the same company used by several other countries
* I'm sure that Fulong Gong and human rights groups brought this up atleast 3 or 4 years ago, Anastasia Lin? Human rights Watch? Amnesty International? I will have to see if I can find it later. If it was the Office of Religious Freedom department the Liberals shut down the report is likely history with that department too though.
This is something I found on a quick look but not the original
"Guy Saint-Jacques, who was Canada’s ambassador to China between 2012 and 2016, is reported as saying it’s best to assume there is no privacy for visa applications made in China. “You can bet the Chinese government is interested in knowing who is going to study where abroad, who is going as a tourist and who wants to leave and immigrate.” Similar concerns have been raised in the United Kingdom."
So I wonder if the Liberals have the integrity to fix it since it is known now?

To be fair, China/Canada relations have deteriorated seriously since 2008. China can no longer be trusted......period. Billy Liar should have been on top of this long ago !!!!

That all depends on who CSIS answers to,Bill Blair or Harjit Sajan. Intel gathering is the sole domain of CSIS.

Would not surprise me in the slightest if Trudeau was giving sensitive data to the Chinese.

It is fair to point out the previous admin initiated it. No different than pointing out McGuinty is responsible for all the wind contracts.
Classic Liberal response though because the question is “what are you doing about it”.
/crickets.
Classic Bill Blair also. He who always throws others under the bus. Laughable also that he “assumes”. Scuze me, isn’t it your job and responsibility to KNOW?
