So the question next is can you help these folk's and prevent them undertaking dangerous migrations and in the end save money as many of these migrants may be unskilled and their fortunes slim should they appear on our shores.
This is how your ideologies work out.

In the end the way to save money is to stop illegal immigration and protect our borders. Whats going on down south is a crisis not a solution.

We don't need to pay for other countries mismanagement, we have enough of our money being mismanaged enough without paying for others.

Ever heard of saying NO!!! Until we get our ducks in a row and our own books balanced and our people looked after first which should be our first priority. Then and only then should we start looking abroad to help others on this planet and until then we need to light the no vacancy sign and turn them all around to be sent back where they came from.

Terry, let's just for the sake of argument and go with that.

Lets bankrupt ourselves, throw our own have nots under the bus, who if things continue will be looking to flood the US or GTA? Oh wait, they already are and have been....

Let alone having to bring in austerity measures. Go ahead, name a ministry you consider one where we could cut their budget and lay off hundreds/thousands....
    The Defense Dept?
    Immigration
    Healthcare?
    MoE?
    etc and et al.

    Debt to GDP.
We either take a Pual Bunyon sized axe to debt........or supercharge GDP. ( and with it, comes inflation)
    Your choice

If GDP growth continues as it has for say the past 14 years. Somewhere under 2%.......How many decades do you think it will be, before the ratio of DEBT TO GDP is acceptable/sustainable etc.
But I suppose there are those who didnt want to listen back around 2008-2011 and still don't

    Economic development. Not handouts.

The governments of these countries - often corrupt - like handouts. They are easy to steal.
The people want economic development - opportunity.

Ever heard the phrase "Economic development is the new foreign aid"?

BTW - economic development is very contrary to climate change objectives. Which is why the UN is hung up on handouts.
We want to give people money to do nothing - partly climate change, mostly control.
If a country develops economically, then there is little the UN can do to control it. The US is a good example of this.

Well sending people away when they have reached our shores may be a lot more difficult than you think.(europe,Greece)

We need immigration apparently to keep out own balloon in the air, so some want to cherry pick who comes, some want nobody and if the initiative here is to keep some at bay, your fighting against your own logic?

It's our country it's our right to invite who ever we want , that has been the way until recently and it's our right to turn anyone away that shows up uninvited.

Yes we need immigration. Do we not need jobs and housing for them? How many are coming in the next 3 years?

There is a natural business/economic cycle. Natural growth and contractions. Do sunny days last forever? The wider or worse the spread of debt to gdp. What about next time!!!!!!!!

    As Werner mentioned.
Isn’t economic growth contrary to popular save the planet?

And on and on. Dig up old threads about envy, and soooooo very much more. From household debt to you name it....

Is a “visa balance” of 50,000 a big deal? Well wouldn’t that depend on whether you make $10,000 or $1,000,000?

Just going to toss this out there agai for people to think about. Canada’s Debt to GDP is very bad. Even much higher than the global average. So is Ontarios.

How many of these boxes are we ticking. Will tick. The BoC sets the prime rate. It depends on different things but primarily as a tool to control inflation. Banks then set various rates based off the prime.

Wages grow: During economic booms – Demand-side inflation
    -yeah right.

Rising input prices: such as oil, timber, etc. – Cost-side inflation,,,shipping cost, Carbon taxes
    ????

Currency depreciation vs others: rising import costs –
Well if our economy is sucking wind and wages are...and other countries have their act together...

    Pass-through inflation
Low unemployment: Strong economy and wage negotiation – Wage-push inflation
-we can only wish...be careful what you wish for..

Rapid expansion of money and credit: Gov’t programs – like now – Demand-side inflation

because the tail wags the dog after all.
