Default Carbon Tax Rebate: Proof the Liberals Lied

Remember back when we were talking about the Carbon Tax rebate and how the Village Idiot promised we will get more back on our Tax return that we pay out. Lies....

I did our Tax returns this morning using Intuit's 'Turbo Tax' . My wife and I are both pensioners and we both draw CCP..our only income. Nothing complicated and very straight forward. In Turbo Tax it's done as a joint return.

Towards the finally review, you get to the page where the Federal Government 'Climate Action Initiative" rebate is claimed. At that point the Turbo Tax said we were going to get a return of $1,876.29.

I applied for the rebate, we qualified and were told we are entitled to a $495 rebate (mine was $300, wife's $150 + $45 rural)

I looked up to the corner and see our new return total with Carbon Tax rebate added it's now : $1921.29.

$1876.29 increased to $1921.29 which equals an increases in our return by $45.

The CRA manages to reduce our rebate from $495 to $45.

Don't get fooled into thinking your getting anywhere near a return of the Carbon Tax money they are taking out of your pocket every time buy gas....It's a BIG lie by the Liberals.

No surprise there at all..... Not sure why some well a lot of people believe that the carbon tax is a benefit for us, clearly it is not..... Just another big lie, but then again, if you say it enough times, most will believe it.

Here is a thought MilePal, you might check with a tax professional to see if the software you were using might be in error. Having prepare income tax for 25 years, something may have gone amiss. I believe H&R Block has a Check and Look scheme, they charge nothing to confirm your returns were done right, if they however find an error they will ask you if you would like them to make the necessary correction. If you ask them to make the correction you will be charged. If you have already submitted your return and they find an error. They can file an adjustment with CRA to make the necessary correction. Having a potential short fall of close to $500 might be worth the fee to have it corrected. Just a suggestion.

Most semi-professionals use Turbo Tax...it's THE standard s/w for CRA filing. HaHa

I saw the same thing on my 2019 refund (was an increase of $39 to my return that year). So if it was something in the s/w it would have been discovered by someone before 2020 s/w was released.

No this is slight off hand by the government. If it was a true 'rebate' of collected taxes...it would appear after the annual tax calculations.

The whole $300 (individual) should appear as an addition to your tax refund, not part of your income to be taxed again. !!!

That does necessary make it fail prove. Plus it cost you nothing if it is correct, but maybe a bit of time. However, if something has gone a miss you could be out a fair chunk of cash. Again it's only a suggestion.
