The Key Words are "DEADLY PANDEMIC"
Getting the flu does not qualify as a pandemic. Been there, done that.

Nobody said a little common sense can't go a long way. I guess the millions that still go to work everyday are stupid? I see more people at work one day than I see family every week. Doesn't mean I can't go to work and still visit family as often as I please.
Maybe if both the unwoken and careless would wake up and use common sense to stay safe we could be a whole lot better off.
Our government could do the same, but they can't seem to get their act together any better.

About not getting sick after vaccination, I m not so convinced. One of my wife's employees just flew home to be with both of his parents who are both very sick with covid. Both were vaccinated more than a month ago.
LTC restrictions were put in place a year ago. Vaccinations started in January.
There were 744 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario LTC in January, 201 in February and 9 in March.

In January there were 32,745 COVID deaths in the United Kingdom. The UK started vaccinating in January. In March there were 2,390.

Vaccinations are saving lives. They would be saving more here today if the federal government had managed to get more vaccines here sooner.

Actually no the restrictions were not in place a year ago. Until only a couple months ago my wife needed to be tested for covid anywhere but waited 5 days for her results which gave her 2 days of visitation as test was only good for 7days. Going on about life for 5 days waiting for her results she or anybody else in the same boat could pick up virus any where any time waiting for results.
Its only been about 8 weeks that the LTC she visits do their own on site 15min tests, before any visitation.

The minor change in testing protocols does not explain the dramatic drop in new cases in other jurisdictions that have mirrored the drop in Ontario LTC.
At the beginning of the year the increases in new cases was behind every U.S. state. Now 4 Canadian provinces, including Ontario, are ahead of over half of the American states in daily increases. The difference is vaccinations.

Some of those big large mountains the US has had helped too. Both Canada and the USA have dropped since the 8th of January was the winter peak. They had way more and longer range of high infection rate . The shots and such a large range of heard immunity both played a role in not having another large spike like us.

Considering a year ago the army was called in to find appalling conditions, no PPE and little to no safety protocols.
Much has changed it the past year.
