Default Where hunters should aim in discussing Bill C-21 on gun control

The title of this Opinion piece caught my eye....surely a right wing rag like the Ottawa Citizen wouldn't be offering good advice...

    Turns out they didn't...

This is the punch line of the Bad joke...

As licensed hunters in Ontario, many of us belong to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, a highly respected hunter-angler and conservation federation with long-held values and standards. The federation is made up of both responsible firearms owners and science-based conservationists.

In addition, as Canadian hunters, many of us tend to be somewhat conservative about our traditional hunting firearms: unlike our American cousins, we regard gun ownership in Canada not as a right but as a privilege.

So as responsible hunters and firearms owners, we have a duty to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Canadian hunters should raise the bar and aim to support the ban on “assault-style firearms” — which have no legitimacy in our hunting gear. We should speak out for our time-honoured traditions and legitimate firearms ownership, but also for the greater good and public safety.

Weird because he also spoke out against the gun registry.
You would also think that black guns would not bother him.

FUDD; Short for Elmer Fudd. A form of gun enthusiast who thinks guns are only for hunting or that there's only certain purposes to guns. i: “A gun-owner who supports traditional hunting guns but favors gun control for other guns such as handguns or tactical rifles.” You'll often find fudds at the range acting tacti-cool, but in no way politically invested.

It's unreasonable to demand all hunters "support" the ban on "assault-style firearms." It is equally unreasonable to demand hunters get involved in the fight against the ban. The impact on hunting is minimal.

I guess if I was in the U.S.A. I could be called that, but fortunately I am in Canada and not to worried about second amendment rights. Now I don't treat owners/users of so called "non sporting" firearm's like handguns or semiautomatic rifles with scorn or contempt as my "hunting rifle" is a semiautomatic. LOL But I must admit I have made the odd reference to weekend warriors and user's of AR 15,s......

Wait, you do not treat other owners/users with scorn? Your statements here directly contradict that.

You are aware that Bill C-21 bans a lot of bolt action rifles as well as a significant number of current non-guns, as is the case with airsoft and air rifles and pistols right?

Oh wait, they are not after exactly what you have, therefore you do not care, this does make you a FUDD.

I don't feel the need to label people that are of a different mindset...

Well, you have done it, you have labelled people who have done nothing wrong bad enough to steal their property from them.

Calling someone a FUDD isn't treating others with scorn? Besides this is a hunting and fishing forum.

C-21 only bans a handful of bolt-action rifles firing cartridges above a certain energy level which are needlessly over-powered for Ontario hunting. Airsoft and other toy guns are never used to hunt. The impact on hunting is minimal and the vast majority of hunters will not notice a difference.

The "sport shooters" who are most affected should understand that when trying to recruit the support of people who are not affected insulting them and calling them names is not the best way to go about it.
