Sportspal Motor Sizing

Hi folks

Recently picked up a 14 ft pointed canoe and looking to add an electric trolling motor.

Initially thought a 30 lbs thrust would do it, but do not want to be under powered with around 500-600 lbs with gear.

Any thoughts on a decent motor size?

Must be electric for lakes it will be accessing.

You will not be underpowered with any electric available today.
In the 1970-80s I used to use an old Minn Kota on a 16 ft aluminum freighter canoe for duck hunting - 2 guys + guns and decoys, and the electric would push that rig far faster than 2 of us could paddle.
Still have that motor, and now use it to troll on a 16 ft aluminum boat w a 20 HP motor and 2 guys for fishing, so it would be plenty of power for your rig.

I think it is a 30 Lb thrust...it was the only size Minn Kota carried back in those days, so anything you buy today will push your rig real easily, because your 14 Ft. Sportspal is far lighter than my 16 Ft. aluminum freighter.
Even on our 16 ft boat w the motor and 2 guys trolling, we only run it about 1/2 thrust to troll.

The bigger motor you buy, the longer the battery will last. 55lb is the largest you can get thats 12v.

Now putting 600lbs in a canoe, I have a different opinion on that, so be safe.
