Now,let's see,a new GG that's supposedly highly qualified clicking off all the politically correct items and four brand spankin' new Judges who just happen to be Liberal Party financial backers. I'll bet if anyone was to ask "Stack the deck much?" ,the howls of indignation and accusations of "racism" and everything else they could throw in would be deafening.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

She owes nothing to residential schools as she never attended one. Day school for primary and high school in Colorado finished by correspondence.

Not sure I would describe her as well educated either. Educated yes but no post-secondary. Average IMHO.

Either way I would agree that it is all about optics.

Sorry but YES she did...she acknowdged it in her acceptance speech..

Listen to her speech..at around the 6:45 minute she says she doesn't speak French because she was not taught it at the Federal Government Day school.. a Residential school.

Noted though it doesn't seem to be in any of her 'background' info provided by the MSM...

A day school even if run by the feds is not a residential school. Day school means you go home at night. I.e you are not removed from your culture, family, and language. There is limited ability to make you white or have creepers sneak into your room at night for nefarious reasons.

Residential school means you are in residence and removed and isolated from culture family etc.

Both types were run by the feds but by definition a day school is not a residential school.

That being said supposedly the day schools were bad as well and there is also class action against the feds regarding their operation.

Actually, residential schools catered to both and were mixed...local kids would be there for the day and kids from farther away would stay there overnight.

So the lessons learned by both would have been the same. Teaching them English and how to assimilate into society would be common training.

Lessons would be common but Day School is still not Residential School. Problems associated with removal from family and culture (one of the biggest strikes against residential schools) are not there when you go home at the end of the day and are home on the weekend. Long and short of it - she did not attend residential school. That being said whatever education she does have is partially a result of a federal primary school.

I stand corrected, you are right.

Seems they were largely in Quebec, where she grew up. Most of the earlier (1870s) 'Days' schools were assimilated into the "resident' schools.

In addition to residential schools, the Canadian government and Christian churches also ran Indian day schools. The Canadian government relied on day schools to assimilate Indigenous children until the late 1870s, when residential schools began to be more prominent.
And yes they were excluded from compensation like you said because they did not suffer the isolation from their culture.

    I apologize.

No problem. No difference in the big picture. I just tend to be OCD where details are concerned.

So the inevitable nonsense has begun...

Simon said she is “firmly committed to learning French,” adding that she planned to conduct official business as Governor General in English and French, as well as in her native Inuktitut language, which is one of many Indigenous languages spoken in Canada.

But her comments have ignited a fire in some Canadian francophones, for whom that is simply not enough.

“In her entire career as a diplomat for Canada, has she never felt the need?” tweeted Françoise Boivin, a former member of the House of Commons.

Political consultant Patrick Déry tweeted in French that Simon was certainly “impressive,” — “but was there not, in the whole country, only one qualified Indigenous person who would also have been able to express themselves in French?”

Our view from Jody W.R. on what has been happening to Canada.

"From my seat over the last six years, I have noticed a change in Parliament, a regression. It has become more and more toxic and ineffective while simultaneously marginalizing individuals from certain backgrounds. Federal politics is, in my view, increasingly a disgraceful triumph of harmful partisanship over substantive action."
