    Default Ottawa Valley Taxidermy

Going to make the trip just North of Sturgeon Falls a couple times this season for some bear hunting before deer season. First time hunting, Landowner's son in law is going to be baiting the new property and apparently the old owners got bear every year. Looking for recommendations on a taxidermist that would do a full bear rug with hear mount in the Ottawa Valley, closer to Smiths Falls the better.

I highly recommend Don at Whitetail Taxidermy.
He has done beautiful mounts for me in the past.
His shop is located in Burnstown near Calabogie. Not too far from you.

Bit more than I was looking to spend for a rug, shoulder mount is looking more of an option. Hopefully I can tag a bear and figure it out from there

I tagged my first ever bear spring of 2020. Because it was rubbed out on the hindquarters the taxidermist refused to do a rug. I opted for a half body stepping out mount with the mouth slightly open. I also got the skull as an European mount in a display case. The rear claws are being made into an authentic aboriginal hunting necklace and the rest of the hide is supposed to be returned to me. All totalled it is in the $2100-2300 range with a 16 month turnaround.
Trust me when I say this…. Have a good idea of who you want to do the work beforehand. If you have the freezer space for the hide and head this is redundant. I processed the bear entirely by myself. From start to finish. I ended up driving 6 hrs round trip to this taxidermist as I didn’t have one lined up close to me.
It is HUGELY important that you pick a taxidermist who’s work YOU like. This is going to be your trophy and you need to have something that you will be proud of and does the animal justice.
Cheap costs usually produce cheap results.
