    Default Scope recommendations

Hi Everyone, looking for scope recommendations for my 30.06. I used to hunt mostly in the bush and have used open sights my whole life. Now that we are hunting a new area I am often in places where I can see a couple hundred yards or more and am looking for something that would be good for both up close and a bit of distance. Figuring $300-500 is my range. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just sold my 30-06 - havent moose hunted in a few years, but had a 3-9x 50 mm on it, 50 mm was great for low light dawn/dusk opportunities for a shot.
3-9x or 2.5-10x would be great - just always keep at lowest setting!
Buy any brand scope that offers a unlimited lifetime warranty and you cant go wrong.

I switched to a Bushnel Trophy 1.75-4x32, on my 30-06, because we do a lot of bush hunting. I found it much easier to pick out running deer in the bush.. It won’t break the bank either.

A couple options in your range. Depends on how thick the bush is where you hunt though. If your still using open sights, your eyes are better than mine and you won't need much magnification.

    I really like Burris Fullfield scopes. I'd use a 3-9 X 40. A 2-7 X 32 would do as well.
I just checked the links in Cantgetright's post above. Yep. That will do!

Some people worry about whether the 3X setting on a 3-9 is low enough to see a close tatrget; I can say I have shot a running deer at 15 feet at 4X.

I hear Vortex scopes are great for the price though I've never used one.

I have Bushnell Trophy ll 3X9X40 on my short barrel Ruger M77 RSI .30-06Sprg that's never let me down, yet, even in the worst weather imagineable. Dial it down for swamps and heavy brush or crank it for across swamps and hydro cuts. They won't break the bank, either.

I use this just 30 year older version and 4X 40 was successful on Moose Bear Wolf

I had to switch to a scope from open sights because of deteriorating vision. I went to 1-4 power. No magnification on the 1x power, so it's easy to pick up running deer. If you see something in the distance, you always have time to crank it up to 4 power.
