I use a modified choke exclusively for waterfowl. I shoot a Benelli SBE II, and use 3" steel ammo, shot size varies depending on ducks vs. geese, and early vs, late season. I use a different gun ( guns) for upland.

Has too much time on their hands
Patternmaster Long Range for ducks and geese always. It’s a wad stripping choke, but patterns similar to an IM or Full.
Everything else you mentioned gets IC or MOD depending on the situation.

Briley or Carlson extended in Improved Mod. I have one for the 12ga premier and both 20's (BPS & SA-08).

Thanks all for the input! So if I'm hunting geese no decoys over either a cut corn field or infront of a swamp in a field what would you recommend?
Sorry for the noob question, thus will be my first bird hunting season.
My dad hasn't went for ducks/birds since we were still allowed to use lead so hes a noob to this as well now.

Why wouldn't you use decoys in a cut field?
Slap a modified choke in there and leave it. It'll cover all your bases.

with some of the silo decoy prices these days you can get a good enough decoy spread for $220 + tax from Pat at CWS. If you were looking to buy another chokes just use the money from the choke on the decoys. Will lead to much better success.
Also shooting upland birds and waterfowl are very different situations. Depending on what gun you have they usually come with interchangeable chokes. I.C. for upland - Mod. for waterfowl. That is always the general rule.
I think sometimes people like to spend there money on the "flashy" and newest thing but if you spend your money on the basics will like pay off more.
Don't worry about the newbie questions. We were all there at one point. Even the so called best of the best started out somewhere at sometime and had no idea what they were doing.

Like Boilerguy said, invest your money into decoys. You can pick up a dozen or two used decoys on Kijiji for cheap, or do what he suggested and pick up a few dozen silhouettes.
I run a 100% silhouette spread these days -- they work.

White rock Silhouette decoys are currently on sale at cabelas . Bought 2 dozen and had my doubts but they brought them in yesterday. Would buy them again at the sale price. Used a modified choke on my Winchester SX4.
