    After Jan 1 2022,they'll be illegal to hunt in Ontario. There's an addendum to the FWCAct in the works right now. OMNRF have bought in to the theory that hunting them educates them and drives the reproductive cycle into high gear making the population explode,diverging the sounders and making them impossible to control. There's an article in Out of Doors magazine on the subject. Personally,I ain't buyin' it. Time will certainly tell,but,if data from New York state is any indicator,all hell will break loose if the government is wrong. They're destructive to agricultire at every level and just wait until campers,hikers and horse riders encounter a sounder in the bush. I can hear the yellin' and screamin' now. They think there's a Coyote issue? HAH!! Just wait.

    If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

    Well there is no ear tag, so if they are then that farm is not doing things properly.

    Or their offspring…I’ve heard of farmers around here losing the odd one while loading them. Usually they come back on their own…

    Anything kept on the farm as an adult requires a tag, if they are being loaded to go to market they require a tag.

    Just saying that if they are escapees the farmer would be doing something wrong, but based on the pictures they look to be reverting to wild, which does not take long with pigs. They may be the offspring of the escapees yes, interesting that they are so good around people though, probably being fed locally.

    IDENTIFY. Pigs are to be identified by using one of these methods:
    For processing: pigs require a 15-digit PigTrace individual ID ear tag, a PigTrace 5-digit herd mark ear tag or a registered 5-digit herd mark tattoo;
    To fairs: pigs require a 15-digit PigTrace individual ID ear tag. Unweaned pigs may be identified with a registered 5-digit herd mark ear tattoo;
    To sales yard or auction: pigs require either a 15-digit PigTrace individual ID ear tag or a PigTrace 5-digit herd mark ear tag;
    Farm-to-farm: all pigs used for breeding must be tagged with a 15-digit PigTrace individual ID ear tag. Non-breeding pigs do not need to be tagged or tattooed.

    Out of curiosity,
    Despite from being recommended no to hunt, What is the legality of hunting then before Jan 2022?
    For some reason, I thought there were already not legal for hunting (NDMNRF has passed a regulatory amendment to
    prohibit hunting wild pigs under the Invasive Species Act, 2015. )

    So not hunting them will prevent dispersal of the pigs.

    Eventually a pissed off farmer protecting their crops or rural property owner feeling threatened by them, will start to shoot them...........and then what?
    The pigs will know-nah,we are not being hunted, just ignore it and stay together???

    Daydream at best.

    So far,hunters can take them because there's no law against it. That's why there has to be an amendent to the FWCA to make it illegal to shoot them. In this country,as long as there's no law against something,it's a legal activity.
