So his dad lives there and so do his grandparents, for all you know the reason he went armed was in case he had to protect their property. In fact, from what I've heard the gas station that those goons were targeting with the burning bin belonged to his grandfather, that's why he was so intent on putting out that fire and the rioters hated him for that and chased after him threatening to kill him. Doesn't sound to me like he went looking for trouble, not something a 17 year old would feel confident doing does it?
Smitty: it’s entirely possible to do something completely legal and completely stupid at the same time, which is what we have here. Ask yourself if you would encourage your son to do what he did. I doubt it and hope not.

Gilly’s post #100 above this one has some truth….guns in the WRONG hands spells trouble (Second Amendment or not) and trouble is what lies ahead guys.

just look at this story from last night..who knows if there is a link or not, regardless it speaks to a society tearing itself apart

And then there is this side of the story. The right side of course.

We could post endless boring links to the Right media having the same melt downs but it then just becomes boring links with predicable results. I was hoping we were on this forum to actually discuss our own personal views.

Self defense is self defense. I guess some just take it for a grain of salt .

I don't care where you live you have the right to protect yourself. End of story.

Yes. Which is why this case is such a win for sanity and common sense. Two things that fly in the face of modern leftist orthodoxy, an orthodoxy which ironically worships total submission to the state while also claiming we should have ultimate freedom to do whatever we want without consequence.

The protester would claim the same right of self defense as claimed by this kid and guess what, even if he got charged the jury would have to decide if he was acting as a reasonable person would. So what do you think, a protester legally exercising his right to self defense using a handgun against a person who took it upon himself to attend a peaceful protest armed with a AR 15.

Well in IMHO the protester walks and this kid is dead, end of story. The witnesses would probably be all protester's so their evidence would all go to the defense. On the off chance there was a very good close up camera shot, it would come down to inches on the position of this kids gun barrel.

So Joe this is the situation you have in America, its the Wild West, the first guy who blinks and goes for his gun.

The best to hope from this situation is that this kid devotes the rest of his life to gun control in the USA and saves some lives, that way his life might be very rich.

We will be getting the jury's verdict on the Ahmaud Arbery murder trial where three white citizens also decided they were going to play Police officer and managed to shot a black unarmed jogger to death.

I expect and hope they are sentenced to life in prison.

If these guys get off then you have set the whole country up to be a WAR ZONE, everybody arming and everybody in each others face and everybody claiming the right of self defense. What a total mess.

Once again it shows the wisdom of the Liberal Government in Canada restricting access to firearms for public safety.

This seems to be a common viewpoint from police officers or former police officers like yourself. "Just let us handle it"
I don't know if it's pride or more of a job security thing. You could learn how to do that little home improvement yourself, but best to hire a professional like me...

The problem is they often don't handle it, or are told to stand down by their superiors. I don't know if you've seen the full extent of damage done over the past few years...people assaulted and killed in the streets by left-wing rioters (not protestors), cop cars burning, 911 not willing or able to respond...a complete disaster and failure of law and order.

Your example of the rioter shooting someone is different -- they are out to cause harm by virtue of them participating in a violent, aggressive form of protest with a playbook of explicit commie/black bloc terrorist tactics. They are the ones looking for trouble, not the other way around. They often have weapons, mostly illegal. They are often not of sound mind or moral character and have quite the checkered past, and the media and big tech machine runs cover for them at every turn.

What wisdom is displayed by our liberal government in restricting and banning weapons that have no value to public safety? When we know where the majority of crimes and shooting come from.

The citizen has the right to self defence. Something enshrined in the American constitution. Thank God for that.

You still didn't respond why you think he actually went looking for trouble just because he was carrying a firearm. If those goons hadn't attacked him it's a safe bet nothing would have happened, they are the ones you should be blaming.

I think you are missing the point, WHY ARE THEY PROTESTING IN THE FIRST PLACE?

They are protesting because of injustice and police inaction and over reaction. I hope you are not taking the viewpoint that people hired as police officers in the USA are the best choices. Most up till now who have been hired were ex military, ex militia, family members of other police officers, this does not make them good candidates.

Your portrayal of the vast MAJORITY of demonstrators is highly inaccurate IMHO.

When you have Militia members blocking the entrance to Michigan's Legislature and calling for the death of the female Governor while fully armed with AR15,s is this your idea of peaceful protest, IF IT IS AND ITS LAWFUL AS I AM SURE YOU ARE ABOUT TO SAY, then guess what the
"other side" gets to do the same.

The wisdom displayed by our government gives us a country where we do not have certain folks/groups surrounding our Parliament building while armed with AR15,s. I think that is a good thing.

The good news from 60 minutes last night is that Policing is now being re invented. Recruits are getting taught to call out fellow officers who violate others rights, calls for mental health will now be a 4th option on a 911 call, police officers will be required to meet face to face with minority groups as part of their initial training and de-escalation a priority. No more drill Sergeant military training boot camp crap that should have been done away with 20 years ago. We need thinking police officers with the training and mentality to handle complex problems.
Not guys that are good at shooting citizens and talking later.

The right to self defense in the USA is set at such a low bar these days that one citizen can practically shot another for nothing. Is this the type of country you want to live in and want for your own kid's.
