Only 8.5 million of the two billion trees promised by PM have been planted
All talk no action.....I was expecting to see Climate Barbie out in the hinterland in her designer Lee Valley gardening gloves planting all the trees the Village idiot had promised the Liberals would plant. But alas..
.05% of their commitment can hardly be calling even 'trying' .. HaHa..
The federal government has planted less than half a per cent of the two billion trees it pledged to put in the ground across Canada by 2030, The Canadian Press has learned.
Figures obtained through an access to information request
show 8.5 million trees had been planted as of mid-November, representing just over 0.4 per cent of what the Liberals have repeatedly promised.
Prime Minister Justin
Trudeau made the pledge during the 2019 election campaign, and the goal was repeated during the government's 2020 throne speech setting out policy objectives.
It asserts the two billion trees would help Canada meet its climate-change targets while creating roughly 4,300 new jobs.

So how much is 2 billion trees?
Its 7174 square miles of trees planted on 10 foot centres. That's 4,591,368 acres.
(2,000,000,000 x 10 x 10) / (5280 * 5280 )
Do we have that much empty space in Canada a) which is not already forested, b) which could support the trees and c) located where people want trees?

I know around here ever since farm land prices jumped 10 fold...all those old farm fields that had become bush have been stripped back down. One bush, not far from here, with 600 acres of trees, was cleared to make way for corn fields. Took two years a whack of mature trees were cut, burned and hauled away. There is another one across the street, 200 acres just cleared.
Yea this was just another Liberal initiative that had very little to no hope of coming to fruition, but sold to a gullible public...like most Climate Change promises.

Even more hypocrisy;
I was given a wooden spoon for my ice cream at McDonald's the other day..no more plastic (recyclable) ones anymore.
I was wondering how many trees will be harvested to replace plastics spoons with wooden ones....

I guess there's no bylaw in your area for clearing bush? My county has one. But then someone needs to complain. You can clear a plantation, but not natural forest.

Most of ontario doesn't have tree cutting bylaws. But I think there would always be an exemption for re-clearing abandoned farmland. There are several areas west of Ottawa where the grown over farmland now has trees 40 feet tall - but they are usually junk - a lot of soft maple and balsam.
