Saturday turkey shoots
Has anyone heard of a gun club holding turkey shoots anymore ?
used to be a great Saturday afternoon activity, out with the guys or with my dad…would like to do these with my son but haven’t seen any in a while. There was one advertised near Lindsay a few years ago but I couldn’t make it.
too bad it seems to be dying out

Bridgeport Rod and Gun holds "meat shoots" which are the same concept. Most pellets on the target wins.

Yes its a shame..I remember when there was one every weekend within 20 miles of me..lions club..rotary club..hockey assoc. etc.. club used to put them on..or the local fish and game clubs. Many fond memories with my dad and lots of meat!!.. guess nowadays with insurance liabilities and gun laws they are pretty much a thing of the past..

There's still no laws against holding turkey shoots. It's just that nobody wants to take the time to hold them. They're a lot of work and there's the liability question which isn't an unsurmountable issue. Participants just need to sign a liability waiver.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I remember going with my uncle years ago. He had different guns for different shells. He would bring a few model 12's and older ones. He would always supply the whole family with turkeys, hams and peameal.

“Liabilities” seen to have taken the fun out of life everywhere…from ATV’s & snowmobiles to turkey shoots and everything in between. The intent seems to be to keep everyone at home where they can’t get into any trouble.

That the trouble with shoots, the organizers like to supply that ammunition in order to provide a constant. So it doesn't come down to what kind of a shot you are. It generally comes down to how well your gun handles the ammunition they provide. Your uncle was a pretty smart guy bring an assortment of guns in order to match one with the ammunition that was provided.

To be honest there was some people I saw couldnt hit the ground if they fell on it..but the statement about the different guns doing better than others holds true. I have 2, 870 wingmasters that couldnt miss at one shoot and could score at others..Have an old topper shotgun that was pretty reliable. it all depended on the ammo brand and overall distance..sometimes a yard or even a few feet makes a difference. Overall great fun tho.
