I have to agree with a lot of your sentiments Joe but organized religion and so called Christians have taken away a lot of faith people once had and with that faith in God. It does not matter if your talking the Catholic church and abuse by priests or Jimmy Swagger type of people. Ministers abusing their flock and stealing money.

"States with secure storage or child access prevention laws had the lowest rates of injury or death from unintentional child shootings. Rates of death or injury from these shootings in states with no secure storage laws were double to triple the rates in states with laws that hold gun owners accountable when children can or do access an unsecured gun.

Yup JoePa, even without religion brought into it, the moral corruption of the world is evident, many people just do not respect or care about others, but they will pretend to care if it fills their wallets or their egos, and it aint just politicians.

Gilroy - one thing you got to remember - there are a lot of so-called Christians who claim to be Christian but do not live or act like one - those priests that molested children, Jimmy Swaggart and many others actually don't follow the teaching of Jesus even though they claim to be Christians - there are two quotes from the Bible that I often think about when people like that are considered - Jesus said "not all those who say Lord, Lord shall enter the Kington of Heaven only those who do the will of my Father" - He also said "if you say you love me and don't keep my commandments you are a liar" - there is another one "at the end many will come and say that they did this and this ..... in my name but I will say depart from me I never knew you" - these quotes are addressed to people who call themselves Christians but are not really - but at the end we got to realize that there is forgiveness to those who truly repent -

Well I know there will be people who don't agree with me and what I just posted but let me tell you - I've been on this earth 88 years now and I witnessed what is happening - I just tell the way I see it - life has gotten cheap and people kill others without batting an eye

Correct me if I'm wrong JoePa: What you seem to be saying is with the collapse of religious faithfulness and guidance the masses have simply loss all their scrubbles. Worst still I would add, we seem to have done nothing, to put anything in place to counter the effect of those losses save perhaps a bunch of suppressive measures, to provide peace and safety to society, which for the most part have failed to achieve neither.

Just some context to the discussion Joe...you right the numbers aren't very high and it doesn't bod well for the future of religion. I think it can be summed up as we get better educated, and become a science-based society, we pull away from religion.

Personally, I think TV has replaced the church in teaching us our morals and ethics...

Anyway, coincidentally this article was in the news this morning...some stats on Christianity and religion in society today.

Religiosity in Canada is at an all-time low, with recently released data from Statistics Canada showing only 68 per cent of Canadians 15 or older now report having a religious affiliation. It’s the first time that number has dipped below 70 per cent since StatCan began tracking the data in 1985.
It’s important to note that this decline is not across the board; the number of Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists and Hindus is increasing, and StatCan predicts the number of Canadians reporting a non-Christian religious affiliation could double by the year 2036.

Christianity, however, is in sharp decline. In 2011, 67.3 per cent (about 22.1 million people) of Canadians said they were affiliated with a Christian religion. In 2019, that number had dropped to 63.2 per cent. Catholicism, Canada’s largest denomination, now accounts for 32 per cent of Canadians over 15, down from 46.9 per cent in 1996.

Statistics Canada, however, also found that religion was becoming less important for Canadians on the whole. Those who reported religious or spiritual beliefs were “somewhat important” or “very important” to their lives was 54 per cent in 2019. In the mid-2000s, it was around 70 per cent.

While there is a clear decline in Chrsitianity, regardless if we look around us,or at the Stats.- if other religions in Canada go up-somethin will come down?

The only religions that are increasing in Canada..are thru immigration, not conversation.

To the determinant of Religions, is the increase in the agnostic /atheist .

Until those immigrants have kids who get better education and realize that religion is brain washing (note I did not say faith of belief, those are personal), and they will move away from organized religions as well.

Violence, corruption and sexual depravity is in abundance every time you turn on the TV and IMHO the reason why we have experienced a steady decline in morality and religion. The Catholic church with its multitude examples of pedophilia certainly has not helped to keep it united and has turned many away looking for an answer.

Great leadership will perhaps someday soon bring it all back.

So you are blaming the TV for moral fault? You do realize that in "the good old days" things like rape, sexual assault in the workplace, incest, domestic violence, etc, were just not talked about. Bigotry was the norm and the bible was used as a way of emphasizing this.

I do realize that every generation looks at their 20s as the best time in their life but there was a lot of messed up stuff going on in years gone by, things are definitely getting better, not worse.
