It's actually quite genius considering he's the most hated Prime Minister right now all over the world, don't worry the spotlight is still on him. The truckers have given him the rope, the village idiot will do the rest.

Funny how they went into Ottawa gunning to get rid of Trudeau only to have O'Toole get dumped.

I guess the analogy of shooting oneself in the foot comes to mind.

this was gift wrapped for O'Tool and he screwed it up. All he had to do was support the truckers and let the chips fall
complete failure on his part

If only it had been that simple, the truckers were infiltrated by many groups as they went across country and by the time they got to Ottawa it was a pretty risky proposition to hitch your wagon to these folk's, as was evident by some of the displays we all saw.IMHO

I was listening in on the question period between Ottawas chief of police and the city councillors. By the sounds of it, the original trucker group that started the protests has mainly vacated the city, the current protesters are not organized into one group. They are basically a few groups and a few lone wolfs currently occupying the downtown core.
They are expecting another wave of protesters this weekend judging by online media posts and local hotel bookings.
Bylaw officers have laid over 115 tickets to the protesters for various parking and other bylaw related issues, but they try not to engage the protesters directly as not to provoke them.
Interesting comment the chief made when one councillor asked about protesters bringing weapons to parliament hill. Apparently they have information that leads them to believe there might be firearms at the protest.
The majority of councillors are frustrated with the whole ordeal and want it to end. The Chief says he has no authority to end the protest and is looking to his colleagues in the OPP or RCMP to take on some responsibility. They have been in talk with the military, should they need help either policing the city or removing large vehicles.
It is costing the city well over 800,000 a day for all costs incurred due to the protests.
Much more was said, but these were the main talking points. To me it honestly sounded like the chief was more than willing to let another higher level of authority take the reins.

From what I heard the Chief who I know personally was basically saying this is not a matter to be solved by the police. Its an unprecedented event that has not happened in the course of our history and there is no playbook written for it.
I was reminded today by an old colleague that in the past we have had demonstrations/sit ins/occupations that lasted a full year. One of these was in my old division where our aboriginal brothers occupied the Canada Revenue agency office and would not move out.
So I suppose in that light a precedent was set and I know it cost a fortune because we all did pay duties guarding the place.
