Getting rid of an unnecessary fee and an administrative nightmare is a win win. Do you really think this was a money maker for the government?
It probably still cost the government money to run this system. At the very least it didn’t put much back in.
Add that to the cost of trying to get people to pay the money owing from 2020 for those who didn’t pay.

This was the only realistic solution. It’s not a bribe. If you paid when you didn’t need to you get your money back.
If you didn’t pay you don’t have to pay back to 2020. Can you imagine the crying that would have been going on?

I never bought stickers for my truck since 2020, but I had to get new plates as one got lost in the truck accident. Now stickers to pay for.

Haven't gotten the money back for my cars, I heard it comes near your birthday so mine won't be until Oct and the wife's July.

I'm a late-October baby and I got mine in the mail yester.

As for the gas tax it's supposed to go down or did on Monday I think that will put a ripple into things. Will it go back to the same point when they put it back ? Will it increase to make up for the loss of 6 months who would be loosing out from the lost revenue.? .

Like the usa inflation put up the gas so they want a 300 dollar a month stimulus cheuqe that Will again increase inflation lol. Printing more money to offset the cost that will make the cost to continue to rise . They aren't very smart lol.
A few situations of that example could come to the Canadian real-estate by government intervention. Canadians don't want to loose value on their homes but they think the government will save it. Our finance minister is shocked . What a surprise like she didn't already know it's been a problem for a while.

I have heard that to replace the yearly licence fee the government is bringing in a yearly / bi-yearly safety program. Age of vehicle determines how often you will be required to have a safety inspection done. That pesky abs light - fail. That tire pressure sensor that needs to be replaced - fail. Prox sensor in your bumper that tells you you're too close to the garage wall gone bad - fix it. When passed you get an rfid window sticker. Revenue collect.. I mean traffic cops will apparently be able to tell from a distance whether the car has passed or not....

No RFID needed, as distance and proximity for RFID to work is quite close.

Not sure if maintaining your vehicle should be a problem for some.....personally I don't drive a POS that has dash lights on all the time...

That was my understanding why the stickers are no longer needed. With computer scan instant info so sticker is an unneeded redundancy.

The Police will know if the plate is valid-what will make a license plate of a vehicle on the road- INVALID in the future?


So far to issue a new sticker they were collecting (other then the money)-owners data-mileage and Insurance Policy info at hand.
For a fee which was increasing each year-for a simple 3 min data entry into a computer and the self adhesive validation sticker. Cost of the sticker is likely 2 $.

This tells me -they wanted to know,if the owner has Insurance,and perhaps the Vehicle mileage record was for Re -sale control(mileage fraud)

How the Police would know by remotely reading the plate-if the "driver"has suspended license?Maybe the "owner"of the vehicle has suspended license-but it would be not uncommon, for others to drive a vehicle,no?

As far i can understand, this is a simple money return at election time.
Time will tell how they will take the money back.Based on perpetually increasein the cost(in my opinion with little cost justification for that) of the now defunct Validation stickers-the time will come.

You still are required to renew your vehicle registration. As far as plate readers, most smaller police services do not have readers due to the costs. Those costs are going to be offset by the government, to allow more services to get readers. Your insurance particulars DL status etc are linked into the same system as your ownership information. Police need only query the plate to get vehicle and owner info. They will still have to stop and check the actual driver to check licence
status. A check that comes back as “insured” is not necessarily the case. People have a habit of not paying their insurance premiums…
