I actually had a chance at a second young buck about the same size the same morning (my wife has a tag and was in a different location). He hung around after I shot the first one as I stayed very quiet. I was in a ground blind so I was able to reload. It was a very narrow shooting lane between 2 trees and I could only guess the distance of 30 to 40 yards. I had my finger on the trigger trying to decide which marker in the scope to use and he walked away. Never presented another shot. Just didn't feel right (maybe I was too chicken to take the risk or maybe it was a good decision LOL, either way he is still alive and I'm still getting pictures of him).
    Congrats
Sounds like a great decision. Why ruin a great hunt already completed.

My son has been bow hunting 7 years now and has not harvested a deer. It's not from lack of trying. There's been days that it was too miserable for me to go out but there he was cold and wet in the stand. If he had a chance after school, out he'd go. We put out cams a few weeks back and were seeing lots of action but this past week there wasn't a photo taken. Friday after noon he had a few pictures sent to the phone so things were looking a little better for us. At the farm at 5:30 and headed to our stands. At 7:15 my phone rang, "I just shot a deer....I just shot a DEER" Trail cam pictures show him at his stand at around quarter after 6 and climbing out at 7:19. Not the biggest doe in the world but after all the hours he has put in I'd call it a trophy. He settle his nerves, made a perfect 30 yard shot to make a quick clean kill and put meat in our freezer. Now to get him a wall hanger.

Awesome! Congrats to him !. Sounds like something I'd do if I had property close to me. I'd be out everyday haha. Good on him for putting in the work and sticking it out. After the first one it gets way easier!

We had a very successful opening weekend. My wife shot a doe for her first deer on Saturday and I was able to catch up with my target buck on Sunday night. Lots of work ahead to get them processed now but the freezer will be jammed full. A1165534-AD2A-4307-A9A8-E0D0819C739D.jpg

No pics but I harvested a young 5 point buck about 170 lbs at 7:30 AM with my crossbow. Walked 10 yards, front legs went out from under him and that was it. I was thankful for him that he passed quickly and thankful for me it was a quick recovery. Spent the rest of the day butchering, processing, making bone broth etc. Feels good to have meat in the freezer.
Congrats! Have not made it out yet. Plan to in the next few days.
