If you don't call you will never get through. I spent more than put over 40 hours of actual time trying to get through.

I was in the same situation.
I submitted in March and up to last month nothing.
I called , and I called.
Finally I decided to stay on hold for 50 minutes and finally got through to a human .
She was very helpful and directed me to the Ontario firearms office.
Again, on hold for 50 minutes before getting through.
And again, a very helpful person that pulled my file, sorted out the problem.
Because I did it on line, I couldn't complete the spouse section.
She talked to my wife, asked whatever questions and Voila. Settled.
I got my PAL yesterday.
The lady in the Ontario office was very understanding , realizing the hunting season was upon us , so she helped as best she could.

This is good advice for someone in or about to enter their last year of PAL eligibility. The problems at Miramichi and Orillia are caused by the handgun "freeze" as people are scrambling to transfer handguns they don't want to be stuck with or buying handguns so they will have the ones they want when the legislation is passed.
If you've got two years or more to go I wouldn't worry about it. The backlog should be cleared by then.

I have never sent them an email, your best to spend the day on the phone and call over and over again starting at 9:00 AM

I got my letter in the mail early September, applied from my I pad on September 14 and received my new card-non restricted in 3 weeks.
