Can any one tell me what bush/shrub or tree those buds are from. It might help me and Ihunt on our next hunt.

I have found usually bright green leaves from the ground cover and some berries earlier in the season before the frost and snow set in, and usually the buds through out the winter. This guys crop was full by 9am!

Same here early on my birds crops were full of aspen and ironwood leaves with hawberries and other berries mixed in. Now it’s mostly those buds.

OP - Enjoyable narrative. Upland in the snow can be very productive as long as the ground is navigable with little to no wind.

Given the time of the year, buds are all that is available food source.
